MAF recalibration

I have seen dyno results after doing aftermarket intake(just intake from stock) that lose power, even though the manufacturer promises gains. To unlock the potential of the free flowing intake you need to recalibrate your air flow meter, in my case a MAF. What do I have to do? how do I recalibrate it?

I could be wrong.. but I've never heard of a Nissan MAF being recalibrated.
