Hey Gang,

Sort of related thread...

My Pathfinder was driving like crap and throwing O2 codes. I replaced the O2 sensors but still ran rough, knocked, etc. I took it to the dealer to reprogram the ECM and had them run diags. They told me I needed a new Mass Airflow sensor for $791 installed. Yikes. I told them "no" and decided to try and fix the problem myself. I removed and cleaned the MAF with contact cleaner, reinstalled and surprise, surprise, it runs great again.

My question is on the 240 how common are problems with the MAF? I've even seen a post about someone here replacing their's with a huge one the size of a jar of peanut butter. Is there a performance gain there?

And finally some advice to the newbies (even me), search, search and search some more. Your problem has been discussed and resolved on some forum somewhere. You'll save hundreds by DIY!

Happy motoring.

you can't stress that enough

upgrade your maf when you're pulling/pushing more air. but only upgrade as needed. just because you tossed a cai, and i/h/e on your car doesn't mean you need a z32 or q45 maf! your n/a ka can barely pull enough air through those huge mafs to make it even read that anything's coming in!

i think the s14 ka maf is a good choice. it's the same "blow-through" design of the q45 and z32 mafs, but not so huge. having not really seen or researched the stock sr20det or ca18det maf (they're probably the same) they might do well on a built n/a ka. now if you're going to go with forced induction, you'll probably benefit greatly from the larger mafs found on the vg30de and vh45de. i've also heard that the n60 maf found on newer altimas is a good maf for a boosted engine...

basicly what it comes down to is not over/under-flowing your maf.
