Car: 1991 240sx, with pignose and sohc motor--WTF was i thinking

Post

just got the car and see that the thing is 'rigged all together. Somehow the person before me decided it would be good to just take a huge dump on the MAF and then just tape it all back together.

I have a couple of pics where there is a wire coming out of the MAF with a fuse or something in it, then going into a little black thing with 2 prongs thats just placed inside a ghetto air filter.

This is the thing coming out of the MAF

And this is the fuse looking thing and the wire that just goes to the air filter

I've never seen a thing like this in my life and im just puzzled to why someone would do this.

The car is running a little rich so i know i just cant leave it so i just wanna know what would be the best thing to do?

Should i just try to find another MAF or could i just unwire the thing and try to make it back to what it should be?

I have a K&N filter that im gonna put in place of the plastic junk so i wont have to worry about lookin like a ricer.

Any input would be greatly appreciated as im prolly gonna start trying to undo the molestation tomorrow morning.

Don't bump your thread a couple hours after you make your post. it is still sitting on the front page.

I'm not seeing what that "thing coming out of the maf wtf" is. if you're referring to the small breather filter, that's your aiv. The big black piece out of the mafs otherwise is your air filter, and there should be another piece that measures temperature up around there.

i figured out wat it was, it was the temp gauge, and it was just placed at the end of the intake. I just drilled a hole in the intake tube and fitted it so it wouldn't look so hack. The only reason i was concerned is because the previous owner said that somehow the maf was bypassed, so i thought the temp gauge was the thing that was bypassing the maf.

That's why you do it right or don't do it. I can't stand when people do ghetto *** jobs. Anyway, these hacked and spliced MAFs are seeming to become more and more popular with 240s. IDK why, MAFs aren't hard to change at all, a little pricy, but thats about it. My MAF has two grounds spliced into one, then goes into the connector.

Another guy had a wiring problem with his MAF also, I don't have any pics of a good one, but here the link to the thread. I gave which wires were what. zerothread?id=270566 Hope it helps somewhat. When I eventually get around to mine one day when I'm bored I'll do a cute lil write up lol

thanks alot for the link, im gonna take all the wiring apart and clean it up and make sure its fixed right. Im thinkin the same thing, there's 2 grounds shooting off of my battery that are attached to the strut towers. I dont know how people so those hack jobs and stand back afterwards and say "Wow, i did a good job"
