I finally got my SR running except I seem to have a problem with the MAF. The first time I started the car up the idle would bounce around and as soon as I step on the gas pedal the motor sort of chokes than dies. I unplugged my MAF after and the idle seemed perfect, would idle around 650rpm and as it warmed up would get to about 750-800rpm. Would this mean my MAF is messed up? is there anything you can clean the MAF with like carb cleaner or throttle body cleaner?

Also is the idle screw the little plastic screw between the 2nd and 3rd intake runner? I tried turning it and it won't budge, even with pliers.

I now have a genuine SR maf opposed to the KA SOHC maf. My car runs. It did the same thing yours did with the SOHC maf. I just installed my SR maf like 5 minutes ago and now she idles away. It is kind of rough but an idle is an idle. The difference in the two mafs as I checked them in my room with a car battery was as follows:

KA SOHC maf (from stanza, ht accidently sent wrong maf which caused the idle problem). 0.6v-0.68v

SR maf (ht replaced it with overnite shipping and everything free of charge). 0.85v-0.95v

These test were at about 72 degrees in my house without blowing into them, just a stand still signal test. Try this, block off most of the main intake hole for the maf so that more of the air goes through the heat element (use tape to cover like half of the maf opposite side of the element). If it starts off, then the Maf is the culprit. If so, try cleaning the elements with something without breaking them. What is happening could possibly be a low air reading causing the ecu to spit less fuel, when more air is actually being sucked in.

No, he said that he received a MAFS from a Stanza.

The SOHC Stanza maf was visually like a s13 maf. The electronic unit itself was silicon sealed onto the maf housing. The plug was 4 pins but only used 3 wires. The output air from the element exited the maf from the opposite side. Oh, and it read lower voltage then an sr maf. Although Jeff said it should have worked, he didn't argue and sent me a real sr maf.

I think what happened was that a DOHC Stanza MAF got in the mix somehow. The SOHC one should work, Stanza used a KA24.

You cant get the idle adj screw to turn? Thats odd. Are you trying to turn it both ways? Have you stripped it out yet trying to turn it? I believe you are supposed to use a number 3 phillips so as not to strip it. Might have to use a undersize socket but there has to be a better way without screwing it up. Spray some lub stuff on it and let it sit for a while.

Ya, I first tried a phillips and nothing. Then I tried a larger flathead and still no go. I tried turning it clockwise and counter cllockwise with a pair of large pliers but it won't move at all.

To make the idle go higher, turn it counter clockwise IIRC.
