Hey guys, yet another issue. The SR starts and idles now, but it runs like crap with the maf plugged in, unplug the maf and it smothes right out. (but of course wont rev higher than like 2k)

I know someone else mentioned this problem, but i didnt find anything in the search. Think this is a vaccume leak? or a bad maf?

Hard to say, I recommend checking all your lines and maybe even replacing them with news ones (only if they look all beat up) and if that's okay, then more than likely you've got a bad MAF. You might even want to check the ratio of fuel to air as that might be a solution as well.

we just worked on car with similar problems. It was a 93 240 with the stock engine , but like yours the car would not rev past 2500 rpms. It only happend sometimes. Even hooked up to the lab scope it showed nothing. So we orderd a new maf and it has been running great.

Are you dealing with the stock MAF or a custom one?

Here is a McGuyver idea, just turn up the boost and blow on the MAF! Then you'll get crazy richness (thats good right?) and rev that mother up! :thinker

Sweet plan! Then i can shoot some flame out my exhaust, cuz that is good for turbo seals. Right?! Thanks for the help everyone, got the problem fixed.

yeah, turns out the shop tried to rewire a DOHC maf (instead of the SOHC). I think they felt more than a little silly when I corrected them.

Mass Airflow Sensor, it is installed between, in, or after your compressor turbine to monitor the potential pressure in your cumbostion chamber and supplement the adequate the accurate amount of fuel.

actually, the stock postion for the MAF for the SR motor is Before the turbine. And it doesnt measure the pressure of the combustion chamber. I meteres the density of the air flowing through it. it does this by heating a very small wire to a certain temperature, and monitoring the voltage required to maintain that temperature. -- to the best of my knowledge -- Tho the MAF can be placed after the turbine.

he was asking was it the maf not where is the maf. By the way did you get that definition out of websters dictionary?

Hmmmm, before you begin to call me stupid maybe you should capitilize your cities. And no I didn't get it out of a dictionary they probably don't have it if it is not an automotive one smart ***. As for the position, if you ask someone what France is they will probably respond by saying, "France is a European country located..." And I think that when people ask about car parts they most likely are trying to visualize what that part does, and position always helps. You probably think that your exhaust is your intake, never paying attention to location. And Cyber, I was saying potential pressure. Correct readings and not predictions, are made by MAFs if anyone wants to know.

after first reading that i was definatly confused. But now i think i understand, by potentila pressure you mean the volume of air entering the cylinder. That makes sense, but you have to admit the way you worded it at first just didnt follow.

:dunce no I am the flame war monger, it must not be avoided but embraced! I just reviewed this post again and found out I am stupid. He said was it the MAF, looking for an update, unless he edited the post to baffle me. And I didn't even read the correction properly because I thought he said he wanted the definition not the location. Shoot me now.
