MAF Not working

My Mass Air Flow sensor stop working, engine burning hella rich...gettin like 15mpg....scaned the car, and came up with the MAF, the dealer quoted me $500 for it...damn....do they make an aftermarket MAF for our cars? or is there anywhere I can get it for cheaper. Or use another car's MAF....gotta pass smog soon...thank you...i;ve search the board already

The only thing you've done is scan the car? Have you tried playing with the MAF connector, or inspecting the harness? A scanner can only tell you what voltage the ECU sees from the MAF. Don't trust someone who relies purely on what a scanner says, especially if their paycheck depends on how much parts and labor they sell.

i've have a K&N filter and the whole MAF giggles everytime I drive the car...this might be a problem that messed up the MAF...besides that I've opened it up some of the wires are not connected...

Yeah breaks in the wire aren't good. Call up one of our sponsors. They sell stuff usually for 25% off or less than local dealerships, no tax, and they can ship overnight if you need it in a hurry, or surface shipment is really cheap. I usually call Joe at Scottsdale (1-888-216-5328). Won't hurt to at least get a quote. Tell him you're from NICO.Other option is buying a used one. If you can get it for $100 or less, and it works well even for just a few years, that's a pretty good deal.

Wrecking yards would be cheap, but the car would have to be a recent addition to the lot. I bet the MAF gets taken quickly.
