My car had idle issues. When I would unplug the MAF it purred like a kitten. So I barrowed my friends MAF and it the car still went crazy when I hooked up his MAF. It was possible this MAF was no good either so I ordered an intake and bought a used Z32 MAF off of EBAY. When I hook up the MAF the car idles crazy and the throttle ony responds every 5th rev or so. I have to keep feathering the gas pedal to keep the car going. The throttle just ignors my feathering. Every 5th rev or so it picks up. When I take the MAF out of the intake and set it to the side of the intake it idles OK. I have been following the FSM and it has me replacing all these hoses which I have done. My wirring was done by Wirring Specialties.

Should I try buying another Z32 MAF?

Does my ECU have to be tunned for a Z32 to make it idle right?

Can I have the MAF and knock sensor tunned out instead of replacing the MAF because I want to get my ECU tunned any ways.

I may be wrong, (someone please correct me if I am) but it could be your TPS (throttle positioning censor). My old beretta had a bad tps and for some odd reason changing the maf would temporarily fix the problem... It had the exact same symptoms as you also... Constantly rolling my right foot off the brake and onto the gas at the same time to keep it running while sitting on hills at redlights... (fun memories.... lol)

when did u put the z32 MAF in relation to when the problem idle problem started because to answer ur question, yes, ur ecu should be tuned.ur ecu should be tuned any time u mess with the air or fuel(injectors especially)

let me know if this helps

To answer your questions, the car has never idled right since the get go. I did try a new TPS off another SR20 that runs and it didn't change any thing. I am low on funds and just want to be sure I am not wasting my money.

Should I buy a new IACV or have my ECU tuned for the Z32 maf?

My research says it could be the IACV. I have swapped out all my sensors off another motor but some of those sensors were bad. My ECU says its the knock sensor. However when I unplug the knock or swap it out it makes no changes. Thanks for the information.

You can't just plug and play the Z32 MAFS, you need to have it to tuned for your application.

iirc the area of the Z32 MAFS is larger than the SR MAFS.

Again, you can't just splice it in and be on your way.

Thanks for the information. My plan is to order the plug for MAF that came with my motor(SOHC maf). My harness was missing the one needed so I used my KA maf and tried my friends KA maf. It idled lke crap with both of them. I am then going to buy a new IACV. I will save the intake and Z32 MAF for later. I have some550cc injectors sitting here. All I need is a T28 and to install my cams. Then I will have my ECU tuned. For now I just want my car on the road. I have not even got to break in the dif or clutch yet. I appreciate every ones input. I will let you know if it works.
