MAF Issues PLEASE HELP

A friend of mine shorted out the wires leading to the MAF (5 wires to the sensor) they were all touching and he tried to start the car - don't ask me why or how. He's not too bright.
NOW the car will not even turn over - replaced the plastic plug and 5 wires (from junk yard) new MAF sensor -
NOW no turning over just a click from the relay - any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Try resetting the ecu and try starting the car without the maf.
