MAF / Intake trouble... help !!

Well, I did it...

I installed a cone air filter instead of the normal air box in my 93 SE. (I like the throathy sound.. hehe) But now the car misses a whole lot.. and it seems to have some lag... IE I go WOT and then it feels like my handbrake is on.. and then all of a sudden the car picks up power and surges forward. If you remember I had trouble before , engine missing when hot. How possible is it that the cone filter messes with my MAF ? Today I took the unit out of the car and cleaned the little diode inside and it now runs even worse... Is my car supposed to stumble after installing the cone or do I have a bad MAF ?

Well im pretty damned sure that its not supposed to stumble like that. Lag is not common with that. Im no expert but sounds like the MAF. But thats just me call me :crazy .

I have a 95 and when I installed my intake, I had the same problem and not even that, my car would stall on me. It wouldn't even go anywhere. I tried everything. What had happened was that while i took the MAF out, I must have dropped it or something. If your MAF is the same as mine... there is a filimet inside of it which is very very fargile!!! if that breaks then that's the end of your MAF. I unfortunetly broke mine. A new one form Nissan cost around $500. I checked online and found a used one for $50, it took like 5 days to get it shipped to me but once I got it, i intalled it carefully and now my car works perect... hope this helps..
