MAF Harness/Connector Question... (w/ pic)

While at the local junkyards today I noticed something a little different between my MAF harness connector and the connectors on the other cars. Anyone have this same setup. Almost looks like the previous owner had a ground wire tapped into the connector...? BUT WHY!!!? Guessing this was maybe just a "quick" fix.. :/

Maybe he felt he was having grounding issues? Or the ground wire to the MAF was bad? Who knows, you should call him up and ask him.
