Hello,

So I have been doing a lot of research, and with research I have found much confusion, so was hoping somebody could straighten me out here. I just did the s14 sr20det swap, and my car is running very rich and sputters a bit. When the engine warms up it tends to want to die, by idling around 250 rpm and sputtering and shaking. After a lot of research, I think I may have narrowed it down to the MAF. I have the "black" WC ecu and the rectangle MAF. A buddy came by with the same swap and we traded out MAF, but he had the round connector. So I rigged it up to work on my car. When I started the car, it just died. So I think I have a MAF sensor problem along with another issue (maybe IACV? or dirty plugs from running rich). But my concern is to what MAF sensor to get. The harness originally came with the round connector but I took that off and put the square connector on, thinking it was the same output. Am I wrong in doing this. Do they both give different signals to where one wont make the car run correctly?

Thanks for the help,
Nicholas

Well I had the same problem as you on my single cam. I went out and got a brand new MAF that was supposed to be on the engine I had like a 96 ka24de MAF and it ran like s***, but you can get a z32 MAF (they have the square plug I believe) and wire that up and mess with the IACV and all of that, thats what I did and it runs like a million bucks now.Like I said idk much about SR's but maybe this was some help?

Check for codes, also unplug the maf and see how it runs.

Thanks for the replies. I checked for codes and only get the 55 code (no issues). Can you run the z32 maf without a piggy back system and only play around with the iacv to get it to run right? I also did unplug the MAF, and it seemed to run better. So I am thinking that is my issue.

You cannot run a z32 maf without a safc(complete garbage and a good way to f**k up a harness), ecu tune, or a piggy back system.

How much better did it run? Did it smooth out any or the idle come up to the regular 800-900 rpm idle range?

Check and make sure that all cylinders are getting fire, and if they are make sure that there is not something wrong with the injectors.(leaky o-rings or stuck open)

Thanks for all the help guys. It was the MAF sensor. Turns out the engine company sent me the wrong one for the engine. For anybody in the future, the two MAFS are interchangable in the sense that they send the same signal to the ecu, you just need a different connector. This was one thing in my research that I could not find anywhere. Thanks again.

Your saying that the Z32 MAF is interchangeable with the stock SR MAF?

The z32 MAF can be used, but usually you have to run some sort of piggy back system. I was just saying for the two different s14 sr20det MAF (round plug and rectangular plug) are interchangeable in the sense of sending the same signal to the ecu. But obviously you will need to account with for the different connector. If you need part numbers let me know.
