I have a 91 240sx with DOHC KA24DE motor. I have a stock MAF, the wiring is connected, however the MAF is not connected to an intake pipe. Tha MAF is just hanging in the engine bay, but is still connected with the wire harness.

Can this cause starting problems? My 240sx cranks over and over but doesn't fire up, no clicking noises. Not a battery issue, power is there. I've checked the usual stuff, everything is connected except for the MAF which isn't attached to an intake pipe.

Thanks in advance

if i unterstand correctly= you have throttle bodty-plastic intake pipe- open air, meanwhile, your maf is just dangling in the engine compartment?lesson of life, things that aren't ment to dangle, that start dangling, should be checked out by a professional.

You are pretty much correct.Throttle body > intake pipe > air filter.

I was sent the wrong size couplers for the MAF so I have to wait another 5 days before I can get the correct coupler. The MAF is temporary ziptied on the side of the engine bay, while the wire is still attached.

I'm just wondering if having the MAF not attached to the intake pipe will cause the car not to start.

Yes it can cause problems, the maf will not be registering and difference is resistance because of no airflow.

Why would you think it would work correctly with a maf not being hooked up like that?

My suggestion:

Use duct tape as a temporary coupler for a test to see if it is the actual problem.

That's a great suggestion. I'll temporarily use duct tape as a coupler and see if that resolves my starting issue. Thanks
