It's hard to say. Are they going to stand by their work if something goes wrong in the first couple of thousand miles? Then it's definitely would be worth it. To give you a little of an idea I paid $275 to have my crankshaft collar put on(only guys in town that would touch it), $400 for a three angle valve job and the head put back together, $125 to have the head disassemble and ported by an old hotrodder, and $180 to have the seats cut, valves polished and reassembled at a machine shop owned by old hotrodders. I really all depends on the quality of the work and just because the price is high doesn't mean it's quality.

i'm paying $50 to have my crank magnafluxed/polished.

also getting a different shop to hone cylinders, assemble the short block (cp pistons/new bearings/studs/bolts) , and balance the entire rotating assembly for $400ish, and he may deck the block if need-be. no headwork for me

thanks for the info JDMSER and bumbletuna as well good info too.

ya i haven't talk to him about any warranty but i would settle for not having one sense he was suppose to check and make sure everything was within clearances and tolerances and he put it together so i expect something.

so far it still sounds like my is on the high side

anyone else have input or experience/prices? please keep them coming.

Adjusting the shims on the RB26 head is time consuming. Did it need valve guides? All the little things add up quick.
