ok i have a pretty trashy paint job on my car and was contemplating painting. so i was watching tv and macco has this deal for like 300$ i was like well if i saved up i could get it, plus this guy with a camaro did his there and said it looked great. but now that i think about it 300$ wont do much today seeing as how i have a few dings they probably wont take it out and they probably won/t take it down to primer either. so now that you have read my long post here is my question to you guys any of you have done this paint job or any other by them? how was it, still look good? i live in so cal so i have numers paint places to choose from if you guys recomend them and do a good job. BTW want to paint it Dark blue again thats what color it is (or used to be)thanks-edgar

Unless you've seen what you get, and you like the final product, I'd say stay away.I don't know anything about MAACO, but paint is truly something that you get what you pay for.

Well, in most cases anyway.

Ive heard of people that sand and do some prep work to the body before taking it to macco and having great results.

I have had several cars painted by macco, everytime I did all of the prep work. The paint was a very low quality paint. The taping job on them varied, but the paint fades quickly and had adhesion problems everytime along with some trash and some orange peel. A lot of the quality issues will depend on just who hapens to be working there at the time. But everytime compared to a good reputable paint shop or body shop the paint looked like crap.

the best thing to do, is buy your own paint (good quality), and then do the prep work and sanding yourself.

yea macco just uses spray paint and just sprays your whole car, actually i dont know, but unless you really dont care what it looks like i would not have them do it. if you want a good paint job, but dont want to spend a lot of money, do all the prep work yourself, ie: sanding, bondo, pop dings out , primer, and more sanding, then take it to a bodyshop and just have them paint it. half the cost the shops charge you for painting is the prep work. i was going to have my front bumper painted at a bodyshop and they were going to charge almost $600. i then asked how much it would be if i did all the prep work, and they are only charging $200. but make sure they will let you, because some bodyshops wont paint over someone elses primer.

hey I H8, you're affiliated with rollhard.com --- maybe you cuold give us a little perspective on how quality shops cut prices when the prep work is pre-done.

Assuming say, a regular old 91-94 s13 had already been stripped, sanded, body work done, and primed-- how much would rollhard charge for paint and labor from then on?

MACCO paint jobs sucks. In the auto paint business, you get what you pay for. It might not peel at first but I can guarendamntee you it will have runs/fisheyes/texture and extreme amounts of trash. They are a "production" shop, there only goal is to get X amount of cars in and out in a day, same with lots of body shops. Not to mention macco uses cheap paints and bad prep work. If you want a good paint job, take it a good body shop or a shop that specializes/customizes in paint and graphics, it might take alittle while to get your car back and can cost alittle bit of $$$ but you will be overly satisfied with the quality and looks of the paintjob.

to just give you some perspective it was about $450 in paint , primer( selaer & sandable) , and the catalysts . thats not including the other autbodu stuff I have. We just had a pontiac in the shop the other day that was painted at macco , it looked good from afar , but up close you could see the ****y tape job they did. You could see a band of the original color around everything.
