Hello people, Quick question for those who can help. Im lookin to get my car re-painted along with adding a VIS Racing bodykit and having a little minor body work done on my 240. (front fenders and door skin a little banged up.) I was looking into having it all done at MAACO for a lower price but just read a post on Earl Schieb Paint and Body (which is somewhat like Maaco) and it didnt seem like such a good idea. If anyone knows what kind of job Maaco does as far as paint and body go, please let me know!! Ive already ordered the kit and should be here pretty soon. Thanks in advance.

You get what you pay for. If you want a good paintjob take it to a reputable paint and body shop. Youw ill pay more, but the job will be much, much nicer

DO NOT GO TO MAACO!!!!!!!!!!! I have heard so many bad things about Maaco and how their paint job is TERRIBLE. If the color actually matches(which is rare) it will start to peel and crack in about 3 months.

Go to google and search "Maaco review" and you'll see what im saying.

For bodywork, pay more and get it done right

as you may have read in my old post i was in the same boat as you and i took my car to eral scheib and they completely messed up the paint. maaco is gonna be the same thing. if i were to do it all over i would have painted it myself which i think you should consider doing if you dont have at least a couple grand for a real paintjob. for the 500-700 bucks you would spend at maaco you could get yourself a pretty decent gravity feed gun and rent a compressor and some REAL paint. go to autobody101.com and that site will basically show you how to paint a car....it may not turn out great the first time but it will be alot better than maaco and it will last.

Not all Maaco are created equal. Most really suck because discount body shops have no reputation to uphold other than being a discount low cost paint shop.. a necessary evil in a world full of broke jobless car owners.

If you want quality work, you need to spend serious dollars.

I got a '*****' job for the summer at Maaco (my neighbor is the owner), and from what I see, it's pretty nice. My owner is a good man and runs the shop like so. I don't know about the long term condition of the paint, but you DO get what you pay for, so don't moan if you get the $200 job and it falls off in a year. Go with the second to best- at my shop, runs about $650-700, and it looks the best to me.

Also, I havent seen a car with non-matching paint. The only problem I've ever seen with the paint right out of the shop is overspray. The cars have to be taped up real nicely, and usually there's a spot or two on the lights or the window where they miss. But it's not a problem, because the detailers remove it.

Yea, I have to agree that not all body shops are equal...example:

My buddies Dad owns a "Maaco" wannabe shop called "Choice" (it used to be a Maaco before he bought it). Anyhow, the guy is a good business man and has painted several of my cars and some of my friends/family. He is not the Hot Rod guy down the way, but if you want a "factory" look and some good body work, he does great.

As soon as I get my car back (getting SR swap right now...GO PHASE 2!!) I taking my car right over to his shop for a paint job. It is gonna look *****in...they could probably do a little more wet sanding, but the prep work is good...and the paint jobs last at least 3-4 years...not too bad. Plus he backs up all of his work...which is important..if anyone wants the number let me know...its in SOCAL

Speed Drift, How much was your paint job at Maaco? Also how long will you have to leave your car in the shop for if you want to paint your whole car?

i think my paint took 2-3 days....the picture you see is maaco paint that is 4 years old.....it was their $400 paint job.......they charge extra for door jams.....i got it during the winter because they always have specials....mine was the half off sale.....so it was $200.....but add in the door jams, color change, and minor dent removal and the total added up to $385.....

NOW HERE'S THE KICKER.....

when i went to pick it up, i paid with my Credit card and the guy rang it up wrong.....instead of typing in $385 and change....he didn't push the 5 button.....so the reciept came out $38 and change.....well after i signed it and went home i felt kinda guilty, so i decided to go back and tell him that he didn't charge me right, and i owed him $347 ....but i had one condition....they got some paint on my carpet (that's maaco) no biggie but i wanted them to clean it off.....and fix some overspray on my front bumper....he refused, so i smiled and walked away with my $38 paint job secret.:D
