Dont paint your car at Maaco unless you do the prep work yourself..they do ****ty prep jobs. and 80% of what you are paying for in a paint job is the Labor and prep work. Spraying, and cost of paint really isnt that expensive....

Which is why maaco is so cheap.

I believe Maaco is set-up to act like independent shops. The quality of your paint-job will depend on the shop. Try to find some locals that have had good luck with Maaco, and take your car there.

If you are refering to the classic Hot Rod black, ask specifically for flat clear. The reduction will ultimately define how much shine it has.It is a semi gloss, almost satin finish that does not reflect light. This way you can still wash and even wax the car.As far as the prep work goes, as long as the body is smooth, you could save some money by sanding it down yourself.

I paint at a Maaco for my full time job and from experience I can tell you that they operate as an independent shop. I know our shop for example does alot of custom jobs because we do a good job. But, we also take our time on the prep work. But to answer your question or concern. Do the prep work yourself and you shouldn't have a problem. I dont know how well your maaco does paint jobs. If you wanted to drive across the country I would do it for you.

My buddy took my car to a maaco, but they did a crap job. I know the one here in town does a better job. Just a matter of talking to them, and seeing there work. Also find out who is responsible for oyur car, take care of him and he'll take care of you Wish I was there to do that.

I had an awful experience through macco. IMO, you should take your car to a dealer who has a paint booth for body work. Dealers are only going to employ professional painters, while Macco will employ a weekend house painter to spray your car. (No joke, after my paintjob came back garbage, dude tells me hes just a house painter lmao..)

Like one guy said, each Macco is a different place. You need to ask people in your area who have had their cars painted if your Macco is good/bad.

I have also been told that they are independently run and the quality varies. It was suggested that you can get a really nice paint job from them if you find one that does good work to begin with, and then tip the spray guy a hundred dollars before he sprays you car and tell him there will be another 100 if he does a good job. Even with a $200 tip, you are way under the cost of a dealership paint job.

prep your car and make sure they mask it correctly... they might need alittle help because sometimes they mistake tail lights and turn signals and paint them. that will hold you off for a year or 2...
