I have a 2011 M56x with 75,000 miles. I have made every service appointment.
I have seen several posts now about problems with the timing chains on the 2011 M56 model with low mileage.
Add my name to the growing list, obviously Nissan has an engine design flaw.

Not that i know enough to sound smart...but when i was looking at the M37 and M56 I knew the M56 was a gamble. the VQ35 and VQ37 both come out of sportier nissan/infinity cars. The M56 motor is the VK56 which is an SUV/truck motor, witht he exception of some tuned FIA GT1 cars that use the same block.

Could the VK56 not be that great as a high revving luxury sedan? Where if it is in the QX56 SUV its a beast since its meant to be a torque-y slug.

I am most upset about the fact that Nissan knows they have a problem, because they are the source of the engine parts. I am sure that others have had problems and just not reported it. Seven 2011 m56x cars with timing chain problems is a lot when I bet they made less than 12,000 of that model that year, especially when you consider it is a problem for much older vehicles.

I posted a couple of days ago that my 2011 M56 with 75,000 had a timing chain fail.

Turns out that infiniti issued a technical bulletin on this problem. It is always the timing chain on bank two, and the culprit is the oil injector, which occasionally fails.

The cost of the repair if you are not under warranty is about $4k. [email protected]

How much was the part?

There were 26 parts involved in replacing the timing chain and oil injector on bank
two. I had the extended warranty so the $4200 job was free less my $100 deductible

Was your oil level always good? As I mentioned in another post. My last M56 had some oil consumption issues. It wasn't horrible but it was moderate. I'm wondering if it could be related. It had over 60k miles on it though. My new one only has 30k and it's been fine. Something to consider though

Any chance you can post a pic of the service bulletin here?

We may have the TSB in our archives - what is the specific number, do you happen to recall?

The link to the FSM and TSB's is in my sig (first post on a page only).

Add me to the list of this issue. Oil changes about every 4000 miles, mostly done myself but a few at dealership during other checks. At the moment the regional rep is denying my warranty claim stating that they have no history of my oil change. I asked if it were any evidence of neglect on the car as I had just changed the oil recently...no answer back on that yet! Car was running fine and all of a sudden would not run above 1500-1800 RPM. Opened case with Consumer Affairs to see where this goes. Pretty upset as this is my 8th Nissan/Infiniti and this is how they treat a loyal customer. Noted 2012 M56S (commute miles) 62,000 miles.

Ouch.

If someone can find the TSB number that would be beneficial. I'm gonna start checking my oil regularly, haven't done so since getting the car in November.

I have a small whine if the car is super cold...lasts 3 seconds and sounds like a whistle getting faster and then stops and doesn't happen again until the following super cold morning.

Still no callback from Infiniti Consumer Affairs that was placed on March 12th. Opened concern with Attorney Generals office and BBB of Nashville so attention is brought by all means possible. My friends QX56 in the same boat. Local dealer and regional rep told me to bring in my receipts for oil services not done by dealer. Lucky enough it seems O'Reillys may be able to provide that info. Totally frustrated with the treatment for a warranted part. This is my 8th Nissan and when I actually have my first problem, this is my experience. **Not to mention driving this Q50 Loaner sucks!

The whistle is normal.

The whine sounds almost like an old manual transmission car driving in reverse.

Yeah maybe. Is this a V8 thing? My V6 M didn't do it.

I suppose so. It's a giant motor with a ton of air induction. I don't really notice mine do it anymore.

The Infiniti techs said when you hear the whine, you'll know it sounds bad.

There was a recall on the timing chain last year. Infiniti should have contacted you, if not you should ask.

This thread is SUPER old (WAY before the recall). Not sure why it was bumped...
