Just curious, are there any available engine mods for the M56? ECU upgrades, intakes, etc?

Is this powerplant unique to the M56 or shared by other Nissan products that perhaps do have available aftermarket upgrades?

Hmmm. There seems to be some stuff out there for the Titan, including supercharger kits, intakes, headers. Would any of this stuff fit the M56 though?

Ecu flash might work but I doubt headers and intake would. Have you uprev tuned your M? PM seymore4.

Actually I don't own an M - yet! Researching them though as a 2011 or 2012 will likely be my next daily driver purchase next year, and was curious what kind of aftermarket support there might be for mods.

As with most luxury cruisers there aren't many mainstream aftermarket parts manufacturers, however there could be speciality shops that would love to have a go at creating custom headers, exhaust and an intake. Almost any good shop would entertain a turbo or supercharger setup as well. All of this costs money. I think what you are looking for is a luxury sedan that has plenty of mainstream parts. You may want to look for JDM parts as well. Our cars are known as FUGA in Japan.

The titans do NOT share the same motor, they have the VK56DE, the M56 got the newer VK56VD with direct injection.. The titan guys are frothing at the mouth hoping that the new titan gets the M's motor... Right now I think there's a cat back available, Uprev is currently working on the tuning software but nothing has been released yet. They posted a couple pics on their facebook a month or so ago of one getting a custom Y pipe, intake, and on the dyno... more will come in time, but a lot of it is going to be custom

Just my 2 pence:

I drove a new M56 last week when I had the black beast in for a check-up, alignment, and rotation. I was extremely impressed by the acceleration, the throttle response, and the smooth way the engine did whatever I asked. It drove just as smooth and agile as mine but with a noticeable increase in power. I personally don't see the need for any engine mods, but that's just me. The only mod I would consider is Megan catbacks - they would enhance the exhaust sound and increase the volume, BUT not to the point where all you hear is exhaust inside the car..

BTW, you mentioned you haven't purchased an M but are considering it - Mine has 78k miles, has had NO work aside from reg maintenance, and is now approaching 7 years old. I still have to tell peeps it's NOT new and they are shocked when I tell them the year and mileage. I am convinced that, if you take care of these cars, they will run and look like new indefinitely. Mind you, some maintenace is pricey, but this is NOT a chevy or ford (and it won't wear out like a chevy or ford).
