Has anyone dropped a 5.6 with the 7 speed into an M45? Anyone know if it can be done?
Thanks

Based on your car list to the left, most of us don't have that kind of disposable income to tackle something like this. ANYTHING can be done, but no, on this forum, no one has done anything that crazy.

Agreed! You would probably be better off selling the M45 and buying an M56 instead - I suspect it would be a lower cost to do this! :yesnod

I have done it. I have also put a jumbo jet engine into my Geo Metro.

OK, you guys think I'm crazy. The answer is simple: I LOVE my M45 and DO NOT like the M56. OK? Of the more than 30 cars I've owned in my lifetime, the M45 is one of my favorites.. I'd rather spend $20,000 on the idea than buy an M56 - or any other car for that matter. (No) thanks for your advice and sarcasm.

I'm sure you could find somebody willing to make it happen. Good luck!

@OP, I see where you are coming from. When I had my 93 RX7 twin turbo I was seriously considering dropping a LS1 engine in it. I LOVED that car. It was so much fun to drive but of course the rotary engine doesn't have a long life span and I blew the engine. That car would have been an absolute monster with the LS1 engine but it was too much money for me at the time and my wife wanted no part of it so had to let it go. If you can make it happen then by all means go for it.
Personally I would like to see some super charger kits for both engines. That might give you bump in power you want without quite so much custom fabrication. I know I'd love to have a super charger in my M37.

Avanti 5010, I'm with you mate!
I would (and will when the time comes) gladly replace my engine rather than buy the new body style. Our M's are among the most brilliantly agressive body style ever made by Infiniti or anyone else. Even the old Q model has a disctinctly 'posh but agressive' stance. All the new M's lack that (in my opinion).
I'm sure you can find some shop somewhere that could make this happen. It's better to spend 20k on an engine for a car you love than buy a car you don't love just for the engine in it.

if you would really rather spend $20k to put in an M56 engine into your current M45 instead of simply just buying an M56, then I withdraw my comment - wasn't sarcastic either!

However, IMHO, it is somewhat unusual to consider the two model years you are referring to, to be that different in external looks or internal design! So, why not simply get an M56?

OTOH, if you had a Y34 (like my 2003 M45) and wanted to put an M56 engine into it, then I'd say there was a good reason for further thought and discussion there. Since the looks of my older M45 is what I love about it. :yesnod Although I would not consider spending $20k to get it in there.

If I could find a reasonably priced turbo-charger for my M45 - under $5k for example - I would seriously consider doing that!. Problem is that the low number of 2003 and 2004 M45's means that no one is likely to make the investment to develop a turbo for it ... not enough potential buyers, let alone ones who would actually spring for it! :(

this is my 2nd m45 and I had a m56, I hated it, I think what would be more awesome would be to drop a e55 engine and trans in it lol, being serious

I'd turbo yours... But the swap has been done, as everyone else stated... Just need a harness, should bolt up with some fabrication... I would estimate that your bill would be in the 8k range... Which you could turbo, and ball out on the pieces for that money... Would still be a dope swap.

I don't think anyone has put the VK56VD from the M56 in anything yet.. All the swaps that I've seen have been with the VK56DE from the Titan. I'm with the OP as well I absolutely love my 06 but I would love it even more if it had the powerplant from the new M56's in it

s***, misread that... 56VD, would require further fab, but still doable.

You'd also need an Uprev reflash to disable NATS, but other than that it should work alright. Not sure how the gauges/interior controls/etc would work, that's the real problem with these kind of jobs.

long time since i posted here.. saw this thread so i thought i wanna comment..

i always thought of changing my engine in my m35x because am having oil burning issue.. well i wont replace it until it reach its final breath..

i did a research online.. and i am already a 350z owner.. the engine bay of an m35 is exactly like 350z, and nobody in the 350z community did an m56 engine swap, most of them LSX and armada/titan engine.

i prefer the TITAN 5.6 Engine because its weight less than the LSX and the heart will still remain nissan.

where i live i can get engines for cheep, i can find full half cuts of nissan armada/titan for around 1k usd from UAE. (JDM IMPORTED OFF-COURSE)

but the challenge is how can i connect the auto transmission to the engine or should i change the transmission!?

if i am having the needed funding for this project like the OP i will go ahead..

I am sure you can do the swap. You can put almost any engine into any car if you have the time and money. My question is why? I have done a few but it always turned out unexpected modes to the drive train had to be made. Then comes the big question, do you also have to replace the OEM drive parts to handle the increased power? Not sure what your goal is. It sounds like a cool engine swap but I would think twice about it. If you are street racing maybe sticking the money into a different car would be the way to go. Just my OP.
