Hey guys, I'm. On my second M45X, 2006 and now a 2008. Love the cars except how they handle the bumps and pot holes. They're great on smooth roads but the suspension seems unable to dampen out the bumps.

Any thoughts? I have OEM tires tires.

Would love a few all season tire Suggestions.

Thanks!

I'm not understanding this thread. Your title is about noise, your thread suggests ride comfort with the suspension issue. If this is about the ride and suspension as well, I'd also be interested in getting better suspension for this car and hear the suggestions.

If it is strictly about tires, there are a million and one threads about this. Forum fav seams to be Continental DWS.

Ditto re the Conti's. These machines are luxury sport sedans. Don't need no damn ride like a Buick...

I'm concerned with suspension and ride. Not so much road noise...sorry for the confusion.

The ride isn't too stiff or sporty, it's just the opposite. It seems to 'clunk' when going over potholes/bumps etc and doesn't dampen it out.

I've taken both cars to the dealership to check out the suspension and both came back fine. My current 2008 M has 46K miles.

Just wondering if others have the same experience?

Thanks

I have an 07 X and I have the same complaints, the car hates bumps. If hit the gas and the rear end squats over a bump or un even pavement, the rear end knocks, almost as if it is bottoming out. Dealer says "Nothing we can see, next time take the tech for a ride and let him hear it". I think the car just needs better springs all the way around. Many have done the spring swap (Tein or H tech). I am not sure if that will solve the problem but it might just help the rear end be more compliant.

Back in the day I had a 5.0 mustang and when I pounded on the gas; the rear end would become very loud, that car hated anything but super smooth asphalt. I think these cars suffer the same issue, the rear end geometry and hardware just can't support the car.

So now I just drive better and I know how to avoid the noise if I want to.

Good luck

That's exactly why I'm curious about the suspension as well. When I had this issue with other cars the suspension needed to be changed, but it seems to be the norm with this.

I guess we just have to live with it...my wife's current Audi or her previous BMW never drove this way.

They had other problems though...

I'm afraid of getting into an accident dodging all the crap roads in NY.

HI all, bought my 08 M45x with 24k about 7 months ago. I love this car and I have a few to choose from (my only sport sedan and used for my everyday driving)
This post interests me for a few reasons.

1. I notice that the car is "as expected" over potholes/bumps *except when under harder accelration* then it bangs hard over s***. It's like everything tightens up under heavier throttle. Very annoying.
2. I had a wierd noice (like a ting ting) coming from my wheels at low speeds (easy to hear in a parking garage) brought it to the dealer, they said it was a loose parking brake or something. They adjusted and THAT noise went away...BUT now I have a grown when slowing down...not brake related, as on or off the brakes does not effect noise. Wondered if anyone else has this noise...(I should see if I can capture it on video) As you slow down it's pitch deepens, so it is revolutions related. (bearings??)I don't think its tire noise, as I have nothing noticable at speed...which brings me to

3. Tires....Please don't tell me to search, I never seem to find a thread that helps...by the time you type that, you could have just told me. SO...what are the best tires for true all season driving (Chicago/Wisconsin). I got fooled when I bought the car, by a set of brand new "Milestars" that look just like Michelins... I am leaning towards the Michelins but would love some real world insight.

Thanks in advance

John

Michelin Pilot Sport A/S Plus probably best for traction, Continental ExtremeContact DWS will get more suggestion on this forum. Trying to save money (per mile)? Get the Goodyear Assurance Comfortread, but I haven't tried them personally yet. For less noise, the latter two suggestions are better, although even the Michelins are way quieter than the OEM tires (dunno about yours).

Thanks for taking the time and giving me tire info. I am grateful.

Merry Christmas!

My dealer in NY cannot find the Continentals. I guess they're out of stock.

Anyone know where to get them?

Thanks

That clunk or knock that you get while heavy on the gas pedal over bad bumps or un-even payments will not be fixed by changing to new springs.

I had it with stock springs, H-Tech and now with D2 Racing coilovers.

It sounds like it's coming from inside the rear or inner axle. I was told it was normal on all M's. :frown:

Thanks for the the discouraging news. I hate it when people tell me that noises are normal...........oh well it is what it is and nothing much that I can do about that I guess. This summer I will have a look at it more closely, maybe I will install a small pin hole camera and mic to see if I can record it.

Again, thanks for the feed back.
