I have to laugh when I read this. You think his engine randomly developed a knock for no reason at all? These engines are only failing when proper maintenance or care isn't given. Sure, if you go 10K miles without changing the oil or you bounce the car off the rev limiter every day your engine won't live long. But neither will any other.
Idk, I hear of quite more than a few having engine problems..I know some other VK45s seem to always show poor metal wear numbers in oil analysis that are done..stuff just makes me nervous lolFlawleZ wrote: ↑Sun Apr 01, 2018 7:40 amI have to laugh when I read this. Yes it did develop a knock for no reason. Hell they're failing even with proper maintenance lol. With any high mileage motor problems are bound to happen. 10k on a oil change is nothing. Been using Amsoil for 7 years and changed oil at 15k. Got 290k miles out of it before it decided go. Sure I drove it hard from time to time but who don’t. My 02 Tahoe just 356k and I have a motor waiting on it too so when it decides to go to motor heaven the transplant will begin.FlawleZ wrote: ↑Sun Apr 01, 2018 7:40 amI have to laugh when I read this. Agreed on that. Luckily this was one of the few where oil consumption was very minimal. Still kept an eye on it though. found out today that the oil pump failed due to low psi. Once we dropped the oil pan one of the two "O" rings was missing. The other one was cracked and pretty brittle. My guess is when it went to the dealer a few years ago for a cracked oil pan, they didn't change them out. Too late nowEdBwoy wrote: ↑Mon Apr 16, 2018 8:50 amI tried to get some conversation going to figure out why these engines seemed to be more sensitive to normal abuse and neglect. The thread didn't go too far.
All I advise people is to keep an eye on their oil levels. That 10k mentioned as an example, might not be bad for a drain and refill; but you should not shut your hood then only open it after 10,000 miles. Oil consumption is still happening and you could be running dry way before your next oil change.
290K isn't too bad..I've seen some meet similar fates with far less mileage, sure..there could be user error involvedcrweaver wrote: ↑Sun Apr 15, 2018 10:25 pmYes it did develop a knock for no reason.
