Hi All,

I am looking for a little guidance on my next set of tires. I have a 06 M45 sport with RE050A's and have been relatively happy with them from a performance perspective( I'm in CA and cold weather isn't a factor) but not from a wear perspective. I am now almost through my second set and have 51k miles. The 50A's have a tendency to wear out on the inside, which I suspect is normal due to the aggressive camber settings on this model. I have never had an alignment performed because it tracks perfectly straight and all tires wear the same. I am thinking about trying the Sumitomo HRT Z III which has had good reviews from the Tire Rack. Has anyone tried them? I am also thinking of going a little bigger 255/40/19. Does anyone have any input? Thanks

Looking at the reviews on Tire Rack is the best way to proceed!

The RE050A is an excellent tire, though, so it is not a given that some other brand might be better. I have not used the Sumitomo you mention, so cannot comment on that per se.

In terms of other brands/models, I like and recommend the Goodyear Eagle F1 GS-D3 (but don't know if it is available in your specific size). Others love the Michelin Pilot PS2 and also the Continental ContiExtreme (but you don't need the All-season tires).

With regards to size, I'd make sure that the rim width range for that tire is correct your Sport wheel width. Also, if you change the rolling diameter too much from standard, your speedo could be off by a little bit - this may not matter too much.

Always get the correct load index and speed rating whatever tire you go with. Please use a load index of 94 or 95 or higher, particularly with non-Michelin tires. And get a speed rating of V or higher (you may not drive at those speeds, but these are also an indication of internal tire strength). Our cars are heavy and need careful tire selection.

Z,

Thanks again.... The Sumitomo was rated number 1 versus RE050A pole positon, Yoko Advan Sport, and Continental CSC 3. Please checkout the link.

I bought the Sumitomo's for my M35 about two months ago. They were recommended by the tire place that I went to. The salesmen said that he had installed them on G's, Mercedes and other luxury cars. I was concerned about the tramrailing with the OEM tires and he said that he hadn't heard that about the Sumitomo's. I went ahead and got the tires and they are significantly better then the OEM Goodyear's. Definitely no tramrailing and not much road noise. I don't drive my car particularly hard, but they have definitely felt more sure than the Goodyear's I replaced. I would recommend them, especially since they are very reasonable in price.
