My '06, M45 S with 140K began to miss and codes came up in the middle of a trip. Let it cool and then it started with the check engine light on but the skid, RV??, and a few other lights were off. Took it to a Nissan dealer, who read the codes. The only one showing at the time was camshaft angle sensor. The dealer gave us 90/10 odds that we could finish our trip to St. Louis, where an Infiniti dealer could help. We made it about 5 miles out of town and the same behavior began again. We made St. Louis and back in a rental. The Nissan dealer replaced the sensor, but then more codes came up for the catalytic converter, O2 sensor, and maybe one other I can't recall. Back home, but will need to get it repaired. Only light showing is the check engine soon.

Since the codes were across several systems, the only thing that made sense was some central electrical/electronic problem. What are the usual suspects for such strange symptoms?

If I need a new computer, can I buy one off a junked M45? How difficult is it to install yourself?

Thanks

Moving this to the right forum...

But generally speaking, if your cam or crankshaft sensors are on the fritz, it will affect the various systems such as air/fuel ratio, etc. which is what's probably triggering the catalytic code, the O2 code, etc. due to the car possibly running lean/rich, etc. Sometimes if those sensors are having issues the car won't even start because the engine doesn't know what position it is in, etc.

^^^ seems reasonable.

The other thing I've learned about these cars is if *anything* goes wrong, pretty much your whole dash will light up. Everything is connected to everything.

To add to my first post...OP, find those sensors (on my old 99 Nissan Maxima, they were very easily accessible) and you might get away with just cleaning them. What happens is they get covered in a thin film of metal shavings. It's possible it's just dirty. Otherwise, from what I remember, they aren't all that expensive.
