I know the bridgestone potennza tires on the sport models are expensive but has anyone changed their tires. I know i wont be changing them for a while even tho it has 26 thousand miles on it and threads are almost gone. Just wanna know any idea and what tires you guys choose as a replacement and how they are. I also realized many owners expenicenced the tramlining issues with the tires and was wondering and new tires has cured the problem.

I bought my M45 Sport a few months ago and it has Hankook tires, I can't remember the specific model. These tires were very poor, I can't imagine any reason to buy Hankook other than to spend the least amount of money. If by tramlining, you mean the tendency for the car to track a groove, then it was very bad with these tires. Also, grip was poor, the back end of the car used to come loose unpredictably in fast turns, they were also noisy.

So I spent some time considering the new purchase of tires. I got most of my information from Consumer Reports and I found right away the best tires are Pirelli P-Zero and Michelin Pilot Sports PS2. I also didn't take long to realize the cost, about $400 each for the Pirelli. Up to now I have always just bought very best quality tire I could, but they have never been so expensive. So what I did was take the overall Consumer Reports score and divided by the price for all the tires that they rated that fir my car. The Kumho Ecsta SPT had a substantially better ratio that the rest, so I got four at Discount Tire, I think it cost more than $900 out the door. Discount charged me another $7 per tire to rebuild the TPMS sensor.

The tires are excellent, they're modestly quiet, they make no squeeling sound around corners, grip is substantially better (than the Hankooks) around fast corners and wet grip is also surprisingly good. So far I have put maybe 2000 miles on them and I am quite pleased.

I will be replacing the original potenzas in a few months. At 25K miles, the tread is almost gone.

My research shows that if money is not a concern, then go with Michelin Pilot Sport PS2 or Pirelli P-zero like creyerson found. These tires are probably the most expensive tires out there and average mileage you can expect is around 20-25K if driven normally.

I am leaning towards Yokohama s.drive which is $35 more expensive per tire than Kumho Ecsta SPT. On tirerack, yokohama is significantly better than Kumho in road noise and treadwear.

Anyone has experience with Yokohama s.drive?

I bought a used 2006 M45 and the dealer put new Kumho Ecsta SPT tires on it. I agree about the grip, it is excellent and the tires dont squeal. However, I think the tires are loud. For the price they're a great choice for this car though. Tramlining is there, but its very minimal.

The next set I buy are going to be Michellins. Ive had great luck with them in the past, and they always seem to be quiet. Twice on previous cars Ive replaced Michellins with other brands, and immediately noticed an increase in noise.

I just replaced my factory tires on my 06 M45 sport with the Michelin Pilot PS2 all season......Took a few short 100 mile trips since last week and the tires are amazingly quiet and the grip is incredible. Now keep in mind, I dont race my "M" so when I say the grip is good, I'm not taking corners at 45mph.

In any event, the tire is good in my opinion and I got them on TireRack for like 260 a tire and my dealer charged me 10 a tire to install and balance..

Tramlining on my Sport was cured very quickly with new tires, never happend after I changed.

I bought 4 new RE50 Bridgestone Run Flats for mine from Ebay! I got all 4 that were from a dealer for $550 including delivery and then $60 to have all 4 fitted. Not bad for a new set of RFT's.

I scoured Ebay for 3 weeks as I was going to buy the Toyo's as replacements but found quite a few dealers selling part worns. I emailed 5 of them and 1 came up with new ones for a very quick sale. Cheapest way to get a great deal.

Good luck.

I have replaced the tires on my 06 m45 sport three times, and am heading into yet another set. After a replacement set of Potenza RE50s since the originals perform so well (tread life is only approx 18k miles but one won't get high tread life without giving up grip and modern rubber compounds have reduced the trade off only in modest amounts), I did try a set of the Michelin Pilot Sport PS2's since they were recommended and actually a few bucks less expensive at the time. The Michelins were good, but in no way an upgrade. The initial area where there might have been a theoretical improvement would have been less noise or smoother ride, but with a low profile tire like ours on the 19 inch sport wheel, no tire is going to be remarkably smooth and I did not notice any noise issue with either the Potenza RE50s or the Michelins. Lastly, the tread rating (220 vs 180 or something along those lines) gave some prospect of better tread life, but nothing of the sort materialized: the PS2's wore out just as fast as the Potenzas if not faster. More to the point, I don't drive and M45 sport to compromise performance or have a Lexus marshmallow ride and the grip of the Potenzas is amazing considering the ride/noise is perfectly civilized. The PS2's didn't seem to have the same level of grip and so I went back to the Potenza RE50's on the next set and am sticking with them, no pun intended. There is a new version of the RE50 labeled the Pole Position that is marketed as some type of upgrade, but they weren't readily available when I went most recently to my favorite Manhattan Beach tire seller, so I stuck with the OEM version and others should look into the Pole Position alternative.
