I have a 2006 M 45 Sport the Slip AFS and RAS dashboard lights are on constantly. The dealer said that the Laser Sensor mounted in the front bumper was defective. I had it replaced with a salvaged part but that did not clear the problem. I had my mechanic trace the problem further than the dealer did and he found that the RAS motor which is mounted on the rear axle is frozen and needs to be replaced. The dealer is asking $2,743.00 just for the part. I am looking for a salvaged replacement part.

Any one with any information on this problem please respond. I know it is not the brakes or brake system as those were just checked.

Thank you

Heard of a few people now with bad RAS motors. Unfortunately the only 2 solutions seem to be spending a ton of money to fix it or just leaving it broken and not having active rear steering anymore.

Yes it is a real problem, the question I have is:
Are the other systems that seem to be inter connected affected as well? The RAS motor is bad, as a result the adaptive Cruise Control does not function and the AFS and Slip lights are on on the dashboard so I am not sure if those systems are also not functioning.

I've never heard of this part failing on any M. For that reason, the used part should be fairly inexpensive in comparison to the new part. People advertise crashed M's fairly actively on Craigslist...just search for an ad and call one with a Sport model. Just don't tell them the actual price for the part!!! I'm thinking you can pick it up for under $300 easily.

Actually i found many crashed z350 with the rear active steering for under 100 but you have to remove the part. Man i remember those days. So much scarry fun.

Thank you for your input, I have searched the internet without finding anyone who has the RAS Motor if you have any suggestions for where to find it I would be grateful for the information.

Pick-A-Part or some other junkyard. You just have to go looking through the car and remove the motor yourself.

If I am looking at the right part, the RAS actuator itself is about $2300, and that is the good price through InfinitiPartsUSA.

The actual part number you're looking for is 55705-aq500
