It looks like Infiniti is following the bmwfilms.com idea. Hopefully there will be more to come.

Born-Again Muscle Car Video

It's a downloadable version of the hi-res MediaPlayer clip on Infiniti's site. 27 MB for 6min 38sec. Watched it full screen at 1600x1200 and the quality is still good.

I can't get anything to load when I click on that link. Is there something that needs to be set up for it to work in IE?

Wow, a 2003 V8 sedan out-handling, out-braking, and maybe out-accelerating nearly 40 year old muscle cars with solid cast-iron carburetted OHV V8s, leaf-sprung solid rear axles stopped by non-ABS drum brakes, all mounted in a flexible Detroit chassis assembled by the laziest over-paid workers of the era. Who could imagine?

Such is the sorry state of the driving public today.

But a better approach for marketing this car than pictures of leaves, ponds, and streams.

I am an unabashed fan of this car. Too bad it wasn't running a 66-67 Chevelle SS396. The resemblance of these cars' profiles to each other would have been unnerving.

Well, it is an advertisement based on a fantasy. Did it hook you? Good!

Can't wait to see the next version of the M in two years. Or better yet, the new President, especially if it is imported here.

That was very cool, I showed it to my wife and kids, afterwards my daughter said she would like to have one. I'm sure glad I have a cable connection.

The video was cool...but still doesn't compare anywhere near to BMW films... :ylsuper

I think the M5 in Star is still my favorite...BTW - a new one "Hostage" is out now :D

I am a big fan of muscle cars(and a big fan of my q45 too), and with the mods that some muscle car owners put in their cars, that movie would be wishful thinking at best. Consider that you have 9 sec. streetable muscle cars with beefed up sway bars, baer performance brakes, 335s in the rear and 275s in front, and all the suspension goodies.

One can order a chevy 502/502 rat crate motor right now for about $6000 and have 502 horses and 502 lb/ft of torque and just drop it into your old chevy without any modifications or fabrications needed.

Indeed, that movie is wishful thinking. I still liked it though.

I too love muscle cars, especially the old Mopars but 9sec streetable cars are few and far between. Those 9sec cars wouldn't be built for the twisties anyway. In my Q I ran a 69' Z28 with a 383 and hung with him on the freeway. Of course, a Q couldn't hang with a cars with worked small-blocks or rat motors but the point is that not all muscle cars are 10sec door slammers. Now a Q with a turbocharged or blown 427 with a little spray would be very, very nice. :D

I suspect i will get flamed for this but here it goes:

Actually a lot of the old muscle cars when stock could barely break 7 sec 0-60, or 15sec 1/4 back when they were new ( with a good driver and abusive clutch dropping)

A lot of the published times in those days were manuafcureres ringers.

Yes they responded well to mods and a lot of them are very fast.

But these are the "good old days" of performance right now.

Fred's right. My '68 GranSport in BOTH incarnations (350 and 455) never ran better than a 15.6.

(455 was pretty much stock, 350 was with cams, intake, headers, duals, 3.83's, etc.)

I'll take the technological improvements anyday.

Now the 70 'Cuda 440-6 AAR that I learned to drive a stick in - that's a different story!

Fred's right-on. Most of those stock muscle cars would be lucky to crack 7 seconds to sixty and 15 in the ¼ mile under ideal conditions. The ones that could would be running rear ends so low the top speed would be 115 mph, and those engines did not live at redline for long durations.

The brakes were especially incapable of handling the attendant mass at those speeds. Limited slip differentials were a rarity. Most of the published times were ringers, as has been admitted by Wangers (64 GTO vs. GTO in C&D) and some of the publications in later years.

I dont know much about muscle cars other than I never have had much interest in them. ( ok.. I still want to build a Shelby Cobra kit for fun) But those huge engines with monster horsepower couldnt do more than 15's? wow.. what if you kept them all stock but put todays technology rubber on them? would that help the times?

Since this whole thread got started on the topics of car videos, I thought I would post a video link as well. Home made M5 video- 6.3 meg .mov.file It was 2 years ago when the M5 came out, my friend took it up to the hollywood hills and filmed this (edited on a Mac) Its pretty impressive. I think you'll like it. I was wanting him to do one for me and my NSX to the some blazing Crystal Method song! But we never got around to it. :(

Holy shiznatch! That's a pretty impressive video your friend's got there. For a minute there I thought it was some big $ professional video! You should make a video of an M5 running through the streets of L.A. trying to elude a bunch of bulky, sumo-type Japanese guys in Q's ala Robert De Niro in Ronin. Now that would be worth a watch.
