Which one did you buy? Because I don't see the M35x listed under Infiniti.

Seriously? That thing is $300!!! Why would anyone spend that money on something that doesn't offer any more horsepower increase? For $100 more you can have a fully tuned ECU from uprev that actually does increase the power while doing the same thing this little pos does. lol

I understand that it does increase driver enjoyment and I would love to not have the delay in my car, but I'd much rather have the increased power for just a fraction more. Yup just 1/3 more the cost will give you the same thing plus more power

Lets kill the argument, Impul which specializes in NISSAN offers this ECU for our car either the M45 or the M35. The ECU will answer all of our problems such as delay throttle response and increase in HP. they also offer stroker kits for our cars and upgraded throttle bodies. Ca'mon what more can u ask for. The only downside is, they are very pricey. but its all about how far and how much are you willing to go to take ur car to the next level.

Cause right now the only mod they claim to give u hp is the stillen catback system. So tech. everyone is in the same HP bracket. Who is going to step outside the box and try it out???

UHHHH....I don't know if you checked the price on that IMPUL ECU, but it's over $2 Grand!

The UpRev ECU programming your stock ecu is only $400 and does the exact same thing as the IMPUL ECU.

I was referring to the "sprintbooster" thingamagigy that costs $300 that doesn't add anything except different throttle response and no power increase. lol

Ken?Who has had a tune for a M45 or M35 from UpRev yet???I have not seen you post anything from them, nor has anyone leaked out any positive info about what the UpRev tune will give our cars. Please correct me if I'm wrong...

Nope, you are right...none have one yet. All it takes is a phone call though. The cracked my ecu and they're adding the real time tuning to it now. It's only taken 5 months, but I guess I'm the only real enthusiest on this site that has a pair.

It's a no brainer that a tune will yield more power and remove the WOT restrictions, but who knows, maybe a company that makes body kits are good at tuning ecu's as well - lol

I'd let AMG tune my ecu all day long...... Maybe you have seen the IMPUL homepage (it's all in greek.. ..i think lol ) the are very much like AMG (before MB bought them) they offer a full range of goodies that are tuned to work together. the biggest drawback is the price. They are expensive!!!!

I'd never let a german touch anything on my car that has anything to do with electricity. And yes, I know who and what impul does and I'm not impressed. They offer a 5.1 liter kit for the M45 that makes 50 more hp for close to $20k - in my mind that is pathetic and anyone that would pay that price would be 2 times as pathetic as the kit itself.

PS: Don't think I haven't read up on anything and everything performance related for these cars. Mines, Impul, Top Secret, yep, read about em. Translated the pages into english. far too expensive unless you like the body kits - which many do. Hell I even like the body kits, but it just isn't my thing.

My point was to the effect that if a company, from Japan, can't make it big in the USA for other than a few VIP kits, then I definitely would never trust them to send me a generic ECU when I can get a custom Dyno tuned ECU from a company that is stateside, has great customer service that speaks english, and has an awesome reputation as the best ecu tuner for factory ecu cars on the road today.

Sorry if the M or Q croud has never heard of them, but just check around the titan, G, and Z crowd and you'll see what I mean.

And M4T5 is just a hop skip and less than a jump away from them to have a custom tuned ECU and help everyone that owns a 2006 M45 and he hasn't done anything about it. Granted he has the oil problem now, but he knew about uprev long before the oil problem. M4T5 care to comment?

Well..... yes, I was going to have them tune my 07' M45. Up to the point until I found out my M was plagued with the dreaded oil consumption.I mean really, until this issue is resolved with Infiniti, I don't see myself doing any other mods to this car.I don't need any reason for them to void my engine warranty or avoid me due to modifications.I'm still looking at 3,500mi to go for oil consumption results and a possible new engine to break in before an UpRev tune is in order......So Ken, your now the key person to give us feed back on what UpRev's tune is really all about. Good or bad, we are waiting to hear and see the results.

Ken is right. That thing is no different than a Diablo or Superchips tuner which cost around $400 that he says UpRev is offering. The stock PCM can probably hold up to 700-800hp I bet.

Always remember that ecu tuning just removes most of the builtin safety programs to ensure durability and long engine life. When you lean the mixture and increase ignition advance the combustion chamber, pistons, exhaust valves, and cats get hotter.

The extreme WOT richness is there to slightly reduce power by cooling everything.

Back before 1996 [preOBDII] the ecu were not very smart and slower to protect so they had to have more safety so it was easy to gain 10% HP and torque and still leave a little safety. Now with the magazine HP wars the factory cannot leave much safety so gains are on the order of 3-5%

Remember the factory tries to protect against the ocassional bad tank of cheap gas or extreme summer heat.

Lots depends on how many seconds you want to maintain WOT 14 for a quarter mile vs 3-10 minutes in a road race.

Piston rings are the largest friction component in an engine so thin and weak tensioned releases lots of wasted power at the expense of oil consumption.Nascar uses 8 quarts in 500 miles, whereas Nissan accepts 1 quart per 1,000 miles, whereas most models in the 90's got 3,000 miles per quart.

To many 3 times worse oil consumption is worth the extra 50 HP in VK45 vs the old VH45 which produced 278 HP.

Q45Tech I hear you. Today's ecu's - especially nissan's, are so robust it is a little overkill in my mind. Uprev can upload 5 different tunes into one ecu and you can switch them on the fly using your cruise control button! that's trick in my book! Plus, the 06 and up 45's have factory wideband O2 sensors as the primary - no need for an aftermarket wideband sensor now.

With a tune on a stock unmodified 45 I would expect at most 3% gain in peak, but the midrange is where you get your fun to drive factor and that's where the tune is best. For a modified car, and I mean "modified" with the ability to not only tune the ignition and timing, but also the cam advance and the power valve. Maybe even a different intake manifold since the stock one sux. Add in a set of LT headers and remove the cats or add in larger "high flow" cats that are designed to take the abuse and I could see an honest to goodness 10-15% gain across the board.

I only say this because it has been done time and time again on the nissan Titans.

And Q45Tech definitely brings up a good point about engine longevity and what purpose are you using the vehicle for. 1/4 mi, endurance, road race, top speed. I would be most here would have the car be a daily driver with an occasional 1/4mi pass here and there. I would hope that if anyone that would be getting into the other forms of racing understand the ramifications of racing and the damage you can do to them. Even our beloved site with there G37s project experienced higher oil temps while roadracing their brand new car - and get this - the ECU actually limited RPM due to excessively high oil temperatures. That's High Tech and saved the bunch a high repair bill if you ask me.

As I understand the older VH45 engine was built better from the factory to handle more extremes, it had lower ringlands on the pistons, bigger valves, girdled main, all sorts of stuff. Hell even the old VG30e would handle tons of boost on a stock engine. I made 450rwhp on a junk yard v6 that lived a very long life. But we have to work with what we have. I believe the VK56DE has the same upper piston ring dimension as the 45 and the last I heard it lasted through 450ish rwhp, but died when it was being tuned for high boost - 9lbs at 519rwhp.

I'd "assume" that we'd be safe as long as the A/F ratio was kept in check as you'd need a very lean mixture on an NA application to cause high enough pressures in the cylinder to cause those issues.

whew - long post, gotta run but for those that think an ECU tune is going to yield 30-40hp think again. We are looking at an honest 7-12rwhp peak and about the same on TQ. mid range and full throttle restrictions removed will just simply make the car more fun to drive, which was what I posted originally.

Have a great weekend everyone, I know I will. Drift and Drags tonight at firebird. Email me if you want to meet up.

UpRev is a company out of Texas. http://www.UpRev.com

They don't have one on their list, but they can do any Nissan ECU

I honestly think UpRev can safely tune an increase around 20-25 rwhp gain. At least I think positive! Even if my M45 is a pile of crap!

I'm with Ken all the way. Not only UpRev but before hand a motordyne plenum spacer and/or Cosworth intake. COMBINED for much less than $2K.

Keep it reliable and scrap the stroker kit idea. It is an everyday vehicle for most.

I dont know a lot about modding cars so maybe this is a dumb question, but while looking on the Motordyne site I noticed that under the MREV 2 manifold it says:

Quote »The MREV2 is a prerequisite to the plenum spacer when used on a revup engine.[/quote]is the engine in the M35 the "revup" engine that is spoken of in that quote? And is it needed before someone (me) puts a 1/2" plenum spacer on the engine?

Go to the G and Z forums for advice on mods - very few with the M do any performance modifications
