Only after I drive my car hard there is a ticking in the engine that sounds like a lifter knock for a while but then will go away. Only after I drive my car hard does this happen. It will also get quiter then loud again before it goes away, and stays with the engine speed. Any ideas?

Timing chain?! That's a new one.

The first thing you should do is to check your oil level before you do anymore driving. V8s are known for drinking engine oil.

I agree with Zerg711. These engines are on the high performance side. They eat oil for breakfast, lunch and dinner. They do so more when you run them hard. I have found that when getting the rev's up to the higher end you need to check the oil level after any run when you are making that engine work to its max potential. For some reason that I do not understand and have never found a solution to, is that the design of these motors is somehow flawed in getting oil to all the places it needs to go when you run them hard. I have had the same issue as you have posted. I found syn oil to be the worst and now run dino oil at a heaver rate then what is recommend. That cut down on my oil burning and the valve train problems I was having.

Lo M35x, You should start by checking oil levels then switch to 91 octane and punch the car couple of times. If knocking persists, you should check to see if you can isolate the knocking to the pulleys. If you confirm it's coming from the engine, then you probably have the same issue I had. I had my short block replaced by the dealer under warranty due to one of the cylinders being bad. Hopefully you are under warranty...

5y/60k mile Bumper to Bumper regardless of owner. You may want to consider purchasing an Infiniti/Nissan Extend Warranty if your car still qualifies for one. If you intend on keeping your M35/45 for the next 3-5 years. You will very likely end up with some costly repairs.

My car does the same when using heavier weight oil. What type and weight oil are you using?
