Last week my center console froze on my 03 m45 and I lost all control over audio, air and nav systems. The problem was intermittent. It would freeze, reset or just stay froze for hours at a time everything continues to run in the back ground I just can’t control it and the screen goes black. Took it to the dealer they diagnosed it and came back and told me that my inav unit is malfunctioning and needs replacement, total cost $5500. I am just amazed at the cost of repair and at loss for words or a solution. Any one have any recommendations.

How many miles do you have on your car? Sounds like it is out of warranty?

Ouch!

Junkyard/ebay rarity or 25% discount from Scotsdale Infiniti and swap it yourself or find a brilliant electronics engineer or remove and send in to manufacturer for a repair quote.

Why anyone who buys a car with NAV better get the Nissan extended service contract until 100k.

That is incredibly close to the warranty expiration! Please try calling Infiniti Corporate and see if you can get a sympathetic ear on this one.

If you were the 1st owner [dealership made profit on you] and had spent liberally [every 90 days] at the dealership for services...............the service manager should be more flexible in going to bat for you.

How many times did some try to persuade you to buy an Infiniti extended service contract? Now it's too late to get one [mileage] with the broad coverage of oem.

Sure it's not just an intermittent connection? Pay to have a tech at least check unplug and plug back].

Contact Scotsdale Infiniti by phone to discuss their NICO discount pricing rather than search the web link [only list more common parts].

I'll bet if you push Nissan/Infiniti corporate they will comp the part and you only pay dealer labor since mileage is so close..............call them first and send a letter registered to legal department.....make them write you back.Denying then keep pushing in a nice way email everyone in the company......you will have to spend time to get the employee lists and format........including those in Japan.

Explain the problem started at 57,000 miles but got worse and worse until you brought it in.

While I absolutely agree with Q45tech's recommendation, if you have it noted in a RO with less than 60K miles on the odometer, you have a slam bang case if you need to pursue a legal remedy, and Infiniti should roll for you.

Dealer was not able to help so I contacted corporate and the opened a ticket but then declined also. So then I wrote to the appeals board and was in the process of waiting but in the mean time I was also trying to find the part and luckily was able to get one from a guy online who got it from a wreaked q45, he had been holding onto the part for 1.5 years and sold it to me for $1900. Part came in yesterday installed today and everything works great. $1900 is a lot but much better than $5500.

I just can believe the nav unit controls all the center console controls including air, audio on board computer and nav. this is a terrible design / engineering where if this one nav unit fails that is not even related to all the other electronics you loose all control over all of them.

I would like to thank everybody for all their help.
