M45 30k Trans service (actually full 30 k serv, not just trans, it is a major service..: $549 at Nissan dealer/ $949 at Infiniti .... SAME exact service, and only the NISSAn offered free loner...Infiniti wanted to charge me $25 bucks. BTW, I highly reco doing this at dealer. There is specialty equip/fluid involved. For a 50k car, dont risk using AAmco or such. The fluid alone was $150...

BTW, LOVE this car. Get 25mpg fwy, goes like a rocket (then I get 17), handles like a sports car. 5 years old and no PROBLEMS!!!! Eats BMR's, vettes, etc.. for breakfast

So when you went to the Nissan dealer did you ask for the 30k service..? Is that service the same for other Nissan cars? I guess what im asking is how did they know what service to perfom on the Infiniti..?

Duh, they look it up in owners manual or on Infiniti/Nissan web site..

The 4.5 engine is the only unusal aspect at Nissan since it is not used in those models but the 5.6 is.

As a business the repair facility at an Infiniti/Nissan dealership only has 3 sources of revenue: Nissan Warranty, new vehicle prep payment, and the services owners pay to have done.

Called local Infiniti, they said Nissan could do exact same job (same fluid, tools etc). So I called Nissan. They said it is considered Infiniti warranty work, and they do it frequently. Has nothing to do with equivenlent mathing Nissan engines, but rather the service equipment. Both dealers actually encouraged it.

It would be a good idea to learn to spell INFINITI correctly.

Of course the engine model is important since why would a Nissan shop keep 4.5 liter engine parts on hand, sure they can send someone over to Infiniti to get them buy why?

People seem to have a hard time understanding that a dealer shop is just like any other shop except they share a building with a Nissan/Infiniti parts mini warehouse....the Parts Department.

They are special inthat they have a reimbursement contract via the new car selling contract that allows Nissan Warranty Corporation to reimburse them for approved work.

Each state has unique FRANCHISE LAWS created by dealers to limit competition and forbid manufacturers from direct selling parts to general public or non frachised dealers/shops.

Try to get these laws deleted in you STATE and see how many millions come out to defeat the repeal...................The Parts, Finance, and Used Car departments are the only profitable parts of a dealership.

"As of 2003, about one in four U.S. adults (27 percent) above the age of 25 had attained at least a bachelor’s degree, the highest percentage ever"

So that means < 15% of population might be functionally literate.

Here is an older post of mine zerothread/148207 that will give you some local San Jose Infiniti prices, and, yes, the Bay Area is among the highest in the country, so other parts of the country ought to be a bit less.

At Frontier Infiniti, the 30k mile service, with the "coupon" from their regular flyers, the price is $549 for an M45. Comparable to what the Nissan dealer quoted you ...

Keep in mind that Infiniti dealers are among the best for customer service, particularly with long-time customers who do use them for more than just warranty work. Of course, there are some rotten apples too, so exceptions do exist!

My experience with Frontier Infiniti in San Jose has been excellent. This is probably helped by the fact that I have bought three cars from them in the past seventeen years! But, I also have all the 7500 mile interval service done by them — only doing the 3750 mile interval oil changes elsewhere — and the warranty work.

Developing a good working arrangement with the Service Rep always helps. At Frontier, the original Service Rep I worked with back in 1991 is still there — now the Director of Parts — and the current Service Rep I work with (William Perry) has been helping me for over 10 years now, as I recall. He always makes sure that I am happy with their work and goes out of his way to get any issue taken care of by their best guys.

Then it would seem that you also know how to not appear an idiot, acknowledge an error, appreciate the catch by others, fix it and move on.

No, it was the FULL 30k mile service, which is much more than the transmission. It is a 6 hour service....

Dude, let it go.

You realize that you are just continuing something that will go on till one of you blinks?

On Topic, I just got my 30k service done yesterday and also got full alignment completed for $600 out the door at my local Nissan shop. I am going to take my car in to get my brake discs resurfaced and pads buffed because they are as new, but slightly glazed causing them to be a little squeaky in the early mornings.

Btw, after the service you will notice that the engine and transmission, while smooth before, feel even smoother now

So what other services do they do at 30K other than oil and trans fluid change?

If you can't read the lettering on your trunk.......

"Transmission service" means different things to different dealers. For most, it means a drain and refill. For a select enlightened few, it means a total mechanical exchange of the ATF. Never heard of one also peforming the pan drop, inspection and cleaning, filter, gasket, one time use bolts and O ring replacement.

For my local dealer, I asked if they replaced the differential fluid every 30K service. He said, "We inspect it and if it is OK, we leave it." He didn't know what to say when I asked "Well, if it is bad, isn't it a little too late?"

Every owner should have the service writer specify exactly what is entailed with each item on the service list.

OEM parts from Joe will always be less expensive.

Service at Avondale Nissan was Excellent (near Phoenix). Did FULL, by the book 30k service (every item including optional ones) with power trans flush, even replaced belts and cabin filter included. Free rental car. All in with tax and fees was $579. Washed and waxed it, an d even filled tank with gas. Highly recommend this dealer.

We try to run a tighter ship on NICO Infiniti Forums to avoid the previous failures of other Specialty Auto Forums. You can see the dead and dying carcasses littering the Web. Where spelling, rim talk, and IM short cuts were/are the norm.

You chose to enter our house so our mild rules apply.

Good to see some additional Economics Strength added to Forum as it is often difficult to make finance and econ simple for the masses.

I just received a quote for my M45 at the Infiniti dealer here in Lexington and a 30k service was $549 and an extra $150 to do the flush and fill on the transmission. Service rep said Infiniti only recommends an inspection at 30k. I'll be doing the flush now than wait for the recommended 60k.
