I was reading through my owners guide to plan my schedule. I was curious how often you guys change your oil, airfilters, and other fluids.

The manual recommended the following:
-Oil Change 3750
-Rotate Tires 7500
-Replace in cabin filter 15000
-Replace air filter 15000
-Replace engine coolant 105,000 (seems like a long time to go unless I missed it earlier)

There is also an 'optional premium upgrade' every 30,000 miles that says to do the following:
-Replace transmission fluid
-Replace differential oil
-Replace engine drive belts
-Replace manual transmission oil
-Replace radiator cap

This seems like overkill, right? I drove my last Infiniti to 160,000 miles and I don't think I ever changed a belt or radiator cap.

Do you guys follow the 'optional' schedule? What do you do? Thanks!

I do oil and tires every 5k. All filters at 15k. All major fluids (tranny, coolant, etc.) every 30-40k depending on budget (it's like $700 for the dealer to do them all). Spark plugs every 60k.

Regardless of if any of that stuff actually needs changing, I change it. I've never had an engine or transmission failure in the 12 years I've been a licensed driver and on the 3 cars that I've owned.

In my 2015 Q70 manual, the guidelines have changed to
- oil and tire rotation every 5k
- cabin filter every 15k
- brake fluid every 20k
- air filter every 30k
- spark plugs at 105k

I don't see engine coolant replacement on the schedule at all.

That's kind of odd. If you let your coolant get to old, it could rust/erode the radiator. That's why I do it...to protect the radiator and keep it fresh. Again, my maintenance is probably overkill for some of the stuff I do...but I've never had an engine failure or tranny failure on any of the 3 cars I've owned.

I looked again... although it doesn't list coolant change on the actual 105k list of items, the text describing the intervals says this:
"The recommended service interval of the factory-fill coolant is 105,000 miles or 7 years, whichever comes first"

That is so unusual that the guidelines for things like the oil change would have been changed between 2012 and 2015. It is the same engine, same oil, same filters, right?

I think its more of an update to current standards. Modern oil and additives are much better then what was used in years past. A 3k'ish oil change simply is not needed. I have been on a 5K synthetic oil change in my cars for a long while now.

A single 5K schedule also splits the difference between the previous two schedules which were 3750 and 7500. Much simpler for everyone involved in the process of maintaining the car.

The owner's manual is only a guideline. The oil change interval could be better established if the car had a engine oil monitor that tracked the miles driven, engine rpm, engine temperature etc. I use synthetic oil and don't drive daily or much so I stretched my oil change interval more than the recommended.

PS I just got rid of a 2012 BMW 535i which had twin turbo's and experiences more sever duty than the Infinity engine. The BMW recommended interval for oil change using synthetic oil is 12,000 miles or 1 year which ever comes first.
