New M on the Way

The new M will be shown in sketch form in August and in the metal late in the year or early in 2010. Infiniti isn't quite sure where to pull the sheet off the car as nobody is sure how long Nissan will abstain from the international auto show circuit. If the cost-cutting ban holds through the end of the year, the M may get revealed at a special event or some other as-yet-undetermined venue. Expect a vastly upgraded interior (one of the shortcomings of the previous car) and the new direct-injected 3.7-liter V-6. The twin-turbo direct-injection 3.7 in the Essence could be adopted down the line as a performance upgrade, but at the moment it is just show-car fantasizing. Nissan is hard at work developing a new V-8 as the performance option in the near term.

I can't wait to see what this will look like and see the spec's... I made a post a few months back about the new M37 and M50. I don't understand why more people aren't talking about this, I can't wait this is why I haven't traded my 07 M45 in yet because I am waiting to see what this will be like...

I'm excited about the new M, but at the same time I'm a little puzzled by the quick change in the model. If the current M was released in 2005 as a 2006 model, that means that the current model "2009 M" is only on its fourth model year. On the other hand the FX went from 2003 to 2008. That is six model years before the new FX came out in 2009. What am I missing here?

4 years is pretty common though (2006-2009), but you also have to look at it this way, the class that the M is in, it's competition is now somewhat ahead of it. Don't get me wrong, when the M first came out it was top of it's class in just about exery aspect, but now the lexus Gs450 is a bit quicker and more horses, BMW 550I with about 360 Hp, Hyundai Genesis though now faster than the M is 375 Hp, and E class Benz 5.5 has around 380hp. So the quicker the better, also look at the Infiniti G it was only in the first production for 4 years (2003-2006). So I think the M is ready for an upgrade.

In this area of the car market 4 years is about the limit of your design. No matter how good it was when it first came out, after 4 years you need to have some new stuff in the pipe line. By the time the 2010 M gets here the design will be almost five years old. The new E-class was just released (it was redesigned back in 03). The new 5 series will be out later this year or early next year. Jaguar just released their new XF. Infiniti is just keeping up with the competition.

After speaking to the higher ups at my local Infiniti dealership, it seems as if the 2010 M will be basically the same body style (sheetmetal) as the 09, and in the spring of 2010, the 2011 revamped M will make it's debut. Everything seems to be tentative due to the crappy economy.
