I believe your box is accessed from the trunk, mounted to the under-side of the hat-shelf.

Later models like my 2008 are actually built into the radio cluster.

Not true I have 08 M and its in the trunk.
Op just pull out the liner and the module will be in upper right corner.

No need to pull out the rear seat, drop the right side and top truck liners and in the top right corner you will see a bracket that has an amp in it. The XM module sits on top of that with two screws. The tricky part is running the antenna - do you have the shark fin on the rear roof? If not you will need to buy a magnetic antenna, based on the fact that you have an 06- you will need an antenna- check Crutchfield for that.

Check this link - page two image seven - location of the amp- and where you install the xm module

You already have the antenna - that fin-like piece at the rear of your roof. Assuming you have an active account with XM and are paying the extra fees for the XM reception, you can always call them whilst inside your car and they may be able to troubleshoot it for you. When I activated mine, they had me sit in the car and they tested signals, reception, etc.

If your screen tells you it's trying to aquire the signal, but you can't tune to channel 0, it seems one of two things.
1) Your antenna may not be connected to the unit in the trunk. Have a look because some peeps have unplugged the antenna to add other sound devices.
2)You unit itself could be bad since it doesn't allow you to tune.

I'd jump into the trunk, remove the trim pieces and have a look at the unit. You'll have to do this to install your new unit anyway. If it's a simple matter of re-attachng the antenna, job done ! If it's already attached, then it would seem your suspicion is correct - the unit has gone titz-up.

Good luck and please post however this project turns out.

I think Partysan and I did this at nearly the same time. When I called XM they offered me a 3-month free trial with no credit card info needed. That ends the 28th of this month. I received an Email from XM to switch to a regular account at reduced rate of $25 for the next 5 months, which I just did about 20 minutes ago. After my 5 months at the reduced rate, it will continue to renew at the regular rate (unles I cancel). I'm betting at the end of 5 months there will be yet another set of discounts offered. Seems they have a variety of ways to go. From what I've read at the website its basically about $45 for quarterly payments or a discounted rate of $99 for an entire year which is about half the quarterly rate.

I was told that the unit in my 2007 was too old to receive those. I never bothered to check into upgrading mine.

XM traffic isn't worth it even for the low monthly charge.

Not sure about the 2006, but on my 2007 I am told my radio (AM FM) antenna is in the rear window and the shark fin on the roof is for NAV and satellite radio.
