Hey fellas. I read through a lot of posts where people were complaining about the cost of struts for the X. Mine went out a few months ago so I was looking for replacements but they don't seem to exist outside of the dealer channels. So, I tried my luck at G35X struts after comparing pictures online. Rather than spending $300+ on each strut I paid $120ish from Autozone. I'm lowered on Tein S Techs and have been driving on them for about four months now with no issues. Might not be the right part but for the price difference I'm completely happy with them. Rides just as good as it did before.

Here are some comparison pics.

Nicely done (on being a guinea pig lol)! This makes sense...because if you order a BC Coilover kit for the X, I believe when I got mine the rears were M35 (RWD) and the fronts were G35x...so this confirms that.

Thanks for posting!

That's a great find - does KYB make a replacement for the G35x? I really like the KYB's shocks on the rear of my M35x.

Yes. I bought KYBs as the replacements.

Glad it worked out too. Thought it would be nice to share so others can save a few bucks.

Great find...I am just about to replace the shocks on my M35X, and was looking for a cheaper option.

@Zoldier - What year is your M35X, and which KYB part numbers did you go with for the fronts (looks like they change for the G35x at '07)?

Thanks!

yes - interested in this as well. i have 06 m35x and the front are painfully expensive. if there's an alternative, say KYB then that would be great.

I took a shot, based on the pictures, and was able to replace the fronts with these KYB parts:

KYB 340010 Excel-G OE Replacement Shock
KYB 340011 Excel-G OE Replacement Shock

They went right on, and so far, so good.

Those numbers look familiar. Pretty sure I got the same ones. I bottomed out pretty hard a couple of days ago. I looked them over today while rotating my tires and they still look good.

Thank you for trying this solution out and letting us know. I have seen other posts that suggest that you will need adjustable control arms off of a 370z to be able to align the car properly after the G35 struts are installed. Did you have any issues with alignment or are you going through tires quickly?

Good question...I had the car aligned shortly after installing the KYB's, and it came right within spec (it wasn't even that far off to begin with). Also, I am 20,000 miles in on the tires I replaced during the alignment and they all look normal, as well.

I have a 2007 infiniti M35X i am wanting to replace all 4 struts and this looks like a good option. My question is: after ordering these kyb struts they will need to be reassembled cause this part number is just a strut not a quickstrut that assembled with coilsprings and top mounts as well as new spring seats.

1. Does this come as a quickstrut? If so do you know a part #

2. If im getting the ones for the G35X to put on my M35X do i order top mounts and spring seats for the m35x still and assemble with the kyb 340010 and 340011. Or should i order the top mount and spring seats for a G35X also

@Chadm35x...copying my response to your PM here, as well...

Good questions...

1. You are correct, this is just the strut...I could not find a quickstrut for the M35X/G35X, but that would have been much simpler...I ended up buying a spring compressor and swapping the rest of the components onto the KYB strut...Not impossible, but a bit of a pain.

2. I ended getting new top mounts from Amazon that were the M35X equivalent (www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00C6N03RO/re ... UTF8&psc=1) and reused the existing spring seats (not ideal, but it has worked for the last ~2 years or so)...If you want new spring seats, you should be able to get new M35X ones that will fit (p/n 54034EG000)...Again, not ideal, but it all seems to fit together and has worked out well, for much less money than straight OEM.

Good luck...Let me know if you have any other questions.

I'm in the same boat as many of you in that i'm reeling from sticker shock on front struts for my 2008 M35x. The dealer wants $492 each and that's not for the full spring-strut assembly.

Are there any tips or precautions i need to be aware of if/when i use G35x struts on my M35x? I don't mind buying a few extra parts, but if reusing springs, mounts, boots, bolts, etc. is acceptable, then that's the route I'm going to go because right now I've got more time than money.

Nothing really special about it...I did replace the upper mounts , since I had it all apart, already, but other than that, as long as you can safely get the springs compressed, you should be in good shape.

Yeah, wish i could get a quick strut with springs, but oh-well. I plan to rent one or two pair of compressors from auto store when i get ready to tackle the job.

How the heck do you get the front strut out of the car? I can't disassemble it. I've loosened the upper bolts and the lower bolts, but there is not enough clearance to wiggle it loose. Any tips?

loosen the nut from the lower control arm to the spindle fork and wiggle it out that way. Also raise the car up a little for more clearance if you're running out of space. there's also a bolt holding the strut in the spindle/fork, you can also remove that for leverage if needed. last, you can take the upper control bolt out if you still can't get the strut out.

i got my struts off of my 2008 M35x and as i look at the KYB 340010 Excel-G, they do not seem to match up. It appears the KYBs are about an inch shorter. I'm reluctant to install them on my 2008. What happens if i install shorter struts?

They fit in there just fine, but the front end of car was lowered by about an inch, which affected my caster. I've since uninstalled them. I thought about installing front strut spacers, but decided to just undo everything.

caster is adjustable just front camber is not. you need new upper control arm if your camber is out of whack. have you replaced the spring rubber seat? if not, do that as well.

KYB 340011 Excel-G OE Replacement Shock
in a 2007 Infiniti M35X... seems like a great solution and wanted more confirmation.. thanks Steve

i have them on 06 M35x model. the struts will be shorter compare to OEM so you will have to compress the spring to get the nuts to lock in.

Aside from compressing the spring to install.. were there any other factors to consider including once installed? thanks Steve
