Since I've been working on my car lately I also noticed that there is a leak around the Rack and Pinion. Not sure if it is from the boot so it's hard to say what exactly. I have these photos that I took and wanted to get everyone's input if I should replace the rack and pinion? The fluid level is at where it should be. I haven't experienced any issues with the steering but a little bit of a groan when I drive out of my driveway and turn to the right. Then that groan goes away the rest of the day. I have the car up jacks now and was curious if I might as well replace this also. Any thoughts?

I had a similar leak and groan on my M56x and replaced my rack. Is your steering loosey goosey? Mine got MUCH tighter/heavier with a new rack.

To me, it doesn't feel loose. But then again, I haven't been driving this car as much lately. i guess it will be time for a new steering rack. Time to order one a new one while I have it up on jacks.

Same as mine, except my 2006 has been leaking now for over 5 years. Very very slowly...I cannot see any leakage on driveway, but on lift it is clearly visible. About 2 years ago I topped of fluid & added some P/S stop leak. I have moaning also at times. I check level occasionally, but have added very little, if any at all after adding stop leak. Back in the day, many folks experienced leaks on these racks when they were only a few years old!

I'm going to be taking pics and writing up a how to on this one. the removal process wasn't too difficult but a little tricky so I wanted to share that. I'm still waiting on the outer tie rods to come in but I'll be posting pics soon.
