HAve a question for all you m35 owners. Was wondering if any of you had command start and if youve noticed that when you use it youre computer that tells you your average liters per 100km will go up? Not sure if ive just been getting terrible gas milage or if the command start has been making it read a higher average fuel economy. I live in Winnipeg, canada so it can get very cold here hence the command start. Let me know what you guys think.

The longer you idle, the more you're going to increase the gauge since you are burning oil while travelling a distance of zero. In l/100km, my car right now has 13.1 and I idle about ~4 minutes in the morning. If you drive really short distances, idling it for a long time will have a huge impact on your fuel efficiency gauge. My questions to you are:

- How long do you idle?
- What distance do you drive?
- What was the increase in fuel consumption?

That would make sense because during the week I command start my car and it probably idles for a good 10 minutes monday to friday before I drive it the very short distance of a few kms. It can be very cold here in the mornings which is why I start it. At one point i think the average fuel consumption got to 22 liters which freaked me out.

That would definitely explain it. If you idle for a full 10 minutes and only drive a short distance, you will get really poor fuel economy since the car counts how much fuel was spent in a set distance.

If your commute to work is 1km and you burned .12L, that's 12L/100km. However, if before you drove that 1km, you idled 10 minutes and burned .1L, then your car will calculate it as .22L burned to drive 1km, and therefore give you a reading of 22L/100km.
