M35x 2006 cigarette and power socket no power

Well I am home in NJ for the holidays and my friends M35x cigarette lighter has stopped working recently.

Of course since I am not home I don't have my volt meter or tools. I checked all the related fuses and they are all good.

Is there something else you can think recommend quickly I can check. Or where in the service manual I can look since I am in process of DLing that now.

Is this common to this car?

On my 2008 m35 manual, it states to use electronic equip w/ the cig. socket located behind the center console only. The cig socket located next to the shifter isn't supposed to be used to power electronics. Perhaps it's fine for very low powered equip like charging my cell phone (which i did, but I noticed it was very loose and finicky when I tried). So will stick to the rear port.

My cigarette lighter socket will not power even my cell phone and I have had to use the power socket behind the center console. I am taking the car in for a part install on Friday and plan on asking the service advisor about it.

I asked the service advisor and he said that they would replace the fuse. That worked and I can now plug my phone charger into it.

He did caution me however that the rear console power outlet is the "preferred" place to use for powering accessories.
