This happens when you push the ignition button without having your foot on the brake. Maybe you pushed the ignition button twice when turning the car off and it put it into that mode, therefore running out the battery.
You can also do this by turning off the car before it is in park. The dash will say to put it in park and press the button again (with pictures). Regardless, if you open the door with the engine not running and it dings like a vehicle with the ignition still in ACC or On (or with the headlights on) then one of those three things is likely the problem. You can look at the start button and the ACC and On lights should be off, so press them to go through the cycle, and if you can't get them there, figure out why (perhaps there is a bad sensor that thinks it's not in park, preventing that, although I figured that system had a mechanical element [like the steering wheel locking]). One user had his video screen staying on even when the ignition was off a year or two ago, but that was some sort of fluke, and then there wouldn't be a ding, but you would see the video screen still on.
