Hey folks,

Happy Friday to all. Yesterday I encountered a VERY strong gas smell inside/outside of the car. Details: M35 Sport, 1125 miles, half a tank of gas, (had not put gas in the car for the last three days, and cap was on tight).

The first time the car had been sitting for about two hours, when I came out the smell was so overpowering inside the car, I almost got sick. The second time about three hours later, after the car sat again about an hour, it was there again, but not so bad this time.

I can't find any leaks under the car. I am taking the car to the dealer this afternoon for a quick look-see. Has anyone esperienced this at all??

I hope this is not the start of a trend

Definitely get the dealer to take a look! There might be some leak in the fuel system that needs to be fixed asap.

If you cant see dripping but the odor is strong, I'm betting an o-ring or clamp is loose. I had a loose clamp on my Q stink up the whole garage. Thankfully there's no smokers in my house.

Guys,

I took the car to the dealer on Friday afternoon. The good part is that they did nin-fact take me with no appointment, and were very friendly (it was my first visit to the service dept.) The bad part, is they could not find any problems at all. I spoke to the mechinac directly and he said there is no evidence at all of a leak in the system: o-rings, clamps, etc.

Funny thing is I put in a tank of gas the same afternoon and have not had the problem since. I told the dealer that if it happens again, then I am leaving my car there until the can find it.... they said no problem. ljc

Just an FYI, if you overfill and the gas comes out the overflow valve it could produce the odor that you speak of. the overflow may have spilled into a pocket in on the inside of a fender, on your tire or justs ome dirt build up.

Its possible that a car wash (with the underwash) would take care of this.

If its gone now; chances are its not much more than "spilled gas" even if you didnt overfill; someone that used that pump before you may have, and it was on your tires; gas really likes to stick to rubber surfaces...

just an idea... but as always keep a close eye on this, cardboard under your car while you park it at home will help you see if anything is dripping down.tk

Z,

I have the car back. They replaced the fuel dampner. It resides at the top left of the block. It is in-line on the gas line. They first tried to fix it via replacing the two o-rings, but that did not fix it. So they ordered in a new part and got it going. They had the car for two days and gave we a 05' G35x to tool around in.

The service manager feels that should fix the rough starting as well. We'll see in the next couple of days, I guess. Regardless, I really like the Infiniti service department. Infiniti of Ardmore (PA)

Excellent! Hope that was it.

Infiniti has always had a very good reputation for their service departments (with a few exceptions in some dealerships, unfortunately.) Glad to see that Infiniti of Ardmore is coming through properly for you!
