I just bought a pre-owned M35 with the standard 6 speaker audio system and I am pretty disappointed with the sound quality. Has anyone upgraded these systems successfully? I am interested in replacing the speakers and maybe putting in an amp. I obviously want to use the factory radio and cd changer.

Thanks in advance for your advice

Have 07 m35 with standard audio system. Just changing the front speakers to JL Audio coaxials and running off the stock ampvmade a huge difference. The speakers that came out of must weigh 6 ozs each. Cut out the hole in the steel back deck where the upgraded audio systems sub would go and put a Bose cover from the upgraded system on it (purchased from Infiniti dealer) Put in a JL Audio 4x 75 amp. Two channels to the front speakers and two bridged to power a Pioneer shallow mount subwoofer in a shallow Sony box and the system sounds 100% better. I am going to see what the system would sound like with the speaker mounted in the reardeck with a different box.

All 4 door speakers are 6 1/2". I only changed the front two thinking the rears are just passive. I may change out the rears in the future. Using the stock amp they don't give much more base but more than what was there and the highs and mids are much clearer. Adding an amp is touchy. If you look at the freshalloy site it comes down to either an Alpine or JL Audio amp due to equalization issues. After changing the speakers and adding the amp and the sub I think the system sounds like what a car of this price should have. When you take a look at the speakers that come out I think you will agree that Infiniti really cut costs in this area.

THANKS A BUNCH NICMO> ill b adding some polks and i agree the amp is something that has to go in fact its propably where the problem starts. after all u can have million dollar speakers but like in any good system ( home theatre 2) it all starts w/ the source power. AnD thats the amp. ill get a Alpine. i had the Alpine PDX-4.150 and oh baby this thing with my Polk Audio Sr was crystal clear and the highs were perfect. No bass but hey thats y u have s sub. 2 bad it went south when i traded in the car as a down for my M and yes i could had taken them out, but i was just pissed as a mother htat day and wanted to just get rid of my car on the whole. AND yes i regret it . .

I also have an 08 M35 and I was wondering what size are the other 4 speakers and is it worth changing them out?

Can you upgrade the 14 speaker Bose system as well?? I haven't heard of anyone stating you can without effecting the entire system. I'm with all of you too, the AMP needs to be replaced with a higher quality one to start this upgrade. Can the AMP in my car be upgraded?

I upgraded the speakers in all 4 doors of my 2008 M35 Sport with Alpine SPR-13C's. These are 5 1/4" speakers as opposed to the 6 1/2" OEM but Crutchfield supplied the adaptor plates that fit perfectly. Size isn't everything These speakers sound great and improved the overall audio quality 100%. It would still be nice to have a good sub installed but I was talking to a tech at a high end audio store (not a chain) and they said if I wanted to maintain the OEM sound system look and control it would be somewhat expensive to do and would require some custom work to properly locate the sub (the rear deck is not the place to locate a subwoofer in spite of the fact that Infiniti puts theirs there).

You can upgrade anything, just depends on the cost and trouble you're willing to go through. With the bose, you'll have to remove the amp as it's a 2OHM amp and won't work, nor would you want it, with most speakers. Most good audio installers would tell you to abort the center channel speaker as this is not a typical car audio set up. If you want to replace all 14 speakers you'll have to either use multiple amps to get the best results. You don't want to amp the surround speakers and center channel as mush as you will the door speakers and so on. Just take it to someone who's highly recommended and they'll be able to point you in the right direction.

Just remeber you're still working with stock deck signal quality. Anything you do will be limited by the quality sent from the crappy stock deck. I would start any upgrade out with an audio control EQX or EQL that will drastically increase your signal quality pre-amp for a mere $125. This will be the best money you can spend on an upgraded system, IMO.

and to use the stock headunit you will need a product like JL cleensweep, it will solve all your problems in hooking up audio stuff....

upgraded audio on the M has been done extensively on fresh alloy - some really good discussions and pics.

Hey Guys, I have the base sound system ( Its the worst I've ever heard) and will be doing an upgrade next week. I was thinking about using a JL audio clean sweep but I would lose the steering wheel controls ( JL Audio recommends to use their master volume knob ) and I did want to give it up. I narrowed it down to the Audio Control EQS or DQL-8 ( w DSP) products as they can take the output of the stock Bose amp and get it to pre amp level then out to the necessary amps with eq functions. I replaced all the stock speakers with JBL 6 1/2 in. Now I have an Infinity Bass Link sub and JBL amplifer to install.I will let you know how it all works out.

I have the 8 speaker system and it is dismal at best. The following link is a review of the JL Audio Clean Sweep, designed to upgrade a factory "integrated" system. Other audio mfgr's have a similar solution.

http://www.audiogearreviews.co...p.asp

Note a trade-off with this particular system might be that you couldn't use your steering wheel volume control any longer.

When I do it, I'll replace all speakers. Remove the two in the rear deck, move them outward and place a low-profile sub in the center.

Of course, I will ONLY use an MECP Certified technician.
