Hello all,

I just bought a 2007 M35 Sport and I am interested in performance upgrades. Please post here all of your upgrades and the results achieved. Recommendations of manufacturers, tip/tricks would also be great.

Thanks,Mike "Trigger" C

Theres not much out there right now, I just got my 06' Sport 6 weeks ago and have a Fujita Cold air intake on order which according to their dyno ups your HP around 10-15 and torque about 10lbs. There are also a couple exhausts out there that will get you around another 10 HP and a couple pounds of torque and make the car sound a little more aggressive. There are several suspension options and tons of wheels out there, if you want to spend $$$ im sure you could have a custom turbo or supercharger setup installed, alot of the mods that are done to the 350z and G35 are possible with the M. BTW i got the intake from Cardomain.com for around $275 shipped, exhaust will run you around $1K from Element114.com................good luck

Probably the VERY best thing you can do is trade your M35 Sport in on a M45 Sport!

the M45 is listed i think about 7k more than the M35. there are many parts available for the M35 since the engine is the same as the 350 and g35 coupe. some examples are the fujita intake for 12.5 hp claimed. plenum 9 to 14 hp depending on rpm, i think from crawfordz.com. both for about 225.00 intake and 299.00 plenum. the M45 is only about 50hp more and nothing available for it that i know of. spend a fraction, smoke an M45 and leave them wondering why.

Thanks for the input scjconsulting. I noticed in your name you have "consulting" included. Would you ever make a statement to a client without providing supporting detail. Why should I have purchased an M45? I suspect Postal's point is well put. Have you any clarification?

I am a computer consultant.

I think you will find the listed 280 HP on the V6 is a mite exagerated as were most of the numbers on Japanese V6 engines up through 2006.

To improve performance and fun I suggest a 6MT or DSG transmission. Since nether one is available from Infiniti you only have kluge alternatives.

My previous car had a 340HP V8 (and 6MT transmission & AWD - Audi S4) A V8 cures all perfomance problem. Now if Infiniti had better transmissions...

Both sides here make valid points. If you spend the money to add significant upgrades to the M35, you might well beat the M45 in performance. The costs after the upgrade are probably comparable too, though.

However, and this is the key point, the V-8 in the M45 just does it so much more smoothly. Without the downtime to add in the upgrades, without the addition of more stuff to break, without relying on people messing around inside the engine compartment, etc.

I have not compared the new M35 to the new M45 ... but ... when I bought my older 2003 M45 three years ago, I was actually in the market for a G35. After driving both, my wife (who is not a car nut) and I were both convinced - she let me spend the extra money for the M45!

I have posted before on a comparison between a G35 and an M45 ... some of those comments are clearly not applicable to the current-gen M (i.e., the comparison between an M35 and an M45 insides), but my comments about the engine probably still are relevant!

I have M35 and my freiend has M45, to be honest there is a sugnificant difference in how this car accelerates if you punch it all the way. However, on a day to day basis there is almost never a need to do that. I wanted to get M45 and had a great price qoute for it, however when I drove M35, I knew that it was also very quick and I would be satisfied with it. Now, one month later I have no regrets in getting M35. Also unlike my freind, I was also able to add Nav, which he does not have. Now every time he gets in my car he comments on how awesome it is with all its features and bigger screen. Also with current gas prices I feel better that I have a V6 instead of V8. Even though the difference in mpg is small I still feel better about not giving extra money to the OIL companies that they do not deserve. I used to have G35 and I love fast cars but at some point you have to make a personal decision what to do with your money, and for me M45 would not give enough of a return to justify 3-5 grand expense.

While I do not totally agree with all your comments as being applicable to me, your points are well taken! Clearly, the new M35 and M45 are essentially identical in interior quality, so the choice is basically the engine and the gas performance (albeit minor). Then, it comes down to what is "right" for you!
