Ok here is the deal guys, my m35 has been giving me problems since June started with alternator, then steering lock module went out, got those two issues corrected and now its over heating. I took it to autozone put it on the machine they said it was the thermostat, bought that put it on, it leaked so bad found out it was really the waterpump. fixed that and the car is still overheating. I bled the system, still over heating, I took the thermostat out of the old housing and placed it back on the car, and no over heating, so I figured it was a faulty thermostat from autozone so I went back got a replacement and put it on the car and it over heated again. I heard that autozone thermostats are not right for Infinitis's. Has anybody had any issues with autozone thermostats? what else could be the problem? I am going to order the parts from infinit its only 27 bucks for the thermostat and 5 for the gasket. I am ready to drive again being without a car is no fun.

Sucks to hear you've had that many issues.

For cheap parts like that, I'd definitely just go OEM instead of saving 1% on after market.

Thanks for the reply, I called Infiniti and I was able to buy a thermostat from them for only 27 bucks so once I put that on I will update this post.

I sure hope the one you got from Infiniti solves the problem. OEM thermostats usually do, according to a number of forum members who have had these issues.

I pick up the thermostat from Infiniti today, I will update you guys with the results. I believe its the parts I got from Autozone, I took the t-stat out of the housing of the old one reinstalled it, the car did not over heat, not one bit I drove it for 3 days, not far just to the store or to drop kid off at school, but so far not over heating, I will see what happens when I put the new t-stat on.

update on my over heating problem. Replaced the t-stat with one from infiniti and my problems of overheating does not exist anymore. I had an issue with the power steering leaking, I thought it was the reservoir having a crack in it, come to find out it was a hose, I replaced both the hose and the reservoir and it is running like new.

I had the same problem on my 2006 M35X. My radiator had a small leak near the top in the plastic. I didn't see it right away, and the easy/cheap thing to do was to replace the thermostat. I bought an aftermarket thermostat at Advanced Auto. I then noticed leaking radiator and replaced it. I filled with 50/50. Car overheated after 1 block. No heat in cabin. Tried to bleed and fill, no joy. I eventually had to take it to my mechanic to figure it out. He spent 15 hours trying to bleed and troubleshoot. He checked water pump and flow through the radiator, all good. He even put in another thermostat, same problem. He eventually put a Nissan thermostat in and fixed the problem. It looks like there is some diverter plate in the Nissan part that caused it to behave differently. $500 dollars in labor to figure out the third party thermostat doesn't work even though it fits. USE A NISSAN THERMOSTAT!!!!!!

Preach it again!
Sorry about the frustration, but at least it's sorted out now.

This is a quote about the V8 thermostat, attempting to make sense of the OEM vs. aftermarket issue. You can click the little arrow if you'd like to read the parent thread in the Q45 forum:

...

I went with the O'Reilly's thermostat for now. Upon inspection, I can see why these aftermarket parts won't be up to snuff. The jiggle valve on the OEM part is right at the top near the outer edge of the thermostat, where the air pocket would be. As opposed to the jiggle valve on the aftermarket part, which is located halfway from the center to the outer edge.
