So I just picked up my 2006 M35x last week. The first thing I did was figure out how I was going to get my iPod integrated into the sound system. After a bunch of research and snooping here I registered...

I've seen a bunch of threads about different hookups etc. but I'm stuck....

I bought the Nissan OEM iPod integration kit. I took a couple of hours this past weekend and buttoned up the install. There were no spare parts after I got everything back together so I figured I was off to a good start. It's a pretty simple install and the sound is awesome. I've read a bunch of different posts on controlling the iPod from the steering wheel controls and for the most part it works. Volume up/down, advancing tracks forward and backward. I can somewhat get the menu to bring up Playlists, Albums, Songs, Composers, etc....

I can even get to the lists within each topic. The problem is that I can never pick an item in the list and make it play. I have the standard Bose system with Nav. The best thing I can come up is to start the playlist I want and then make the connection. That's not acceptable over the long run.

Has anyone used the Nissan OEN kit with the M35 and figured out how to get the controls to work with the stereo unit controls?

Thanks in advance.

I do not have satellite radio. The car is just pre-wired for XM/Sirius. The wiring is in the trunk close to the deck lid on the right hand side. It's tucked up by the Rear TV mounting brackets. The cable is strung along the decklid parallel with the audio harness for the Bose amplifier. Then it drops down and enters the cabin next to the rear drivers side door. There's a small hole that I expanded to feed the connector through. The adapter sits underneath the back seat deck and is held in place with some rubber coated double-sided tape. It's grounded to the seat belt bracket which is tied to the frame of the car. The iPod docking cable then runs from the adapter underneath the carpeting into the center console. A 3/4" grommet buttons up the center console nicely.

I should've taken pics but I worked off another thread here that had a link to a PDF of a G35 install. If I feel energetic enough I'll pull the trunk apart again at some point.

Back to my question...I think I found out the answer.

You hit CAT/RPT and then push the Tune/Folder button. Then you use seek>> track<< to cycle through the music menu. When you have the menu selection hit CAT/RPT to accept the choice. Then use seek>> track<< again to cycle through the choices for the menu item you selected. It's slow so I doubt you want to make a selection by artist name, especially if you have a ton of music.

Once you have the item you want, turn the tune knob clockwise and the first song in the list starts.

The little instruction card that comes with the kit may work nicely for Nissans but it took quite a bit of experimentation to figure it out on my '06 M35.

I'll search for the PDF file of the G install and link to it. It's actually a very easy install with no splicing, soldering, etc. Just 4 zip-ties along the trunk with the other harness to keep things neat looking.

Here are the part numbers that I used for my installation (prices may vary):

999U7-VR002 (changed part number to 999U7-ST002): IPOD Gateway ($165.00)999U7-VS000: Harness ($52.50)999U7-VS001: Harness ($31.00)

I was able to pick these parts up from local nissan dealerships.

Does anyone know if the 2006 M35 base model is wired in the same way as the sport model?

If you mean by "base" no option packages, then yes, the Sport and Base are pre-wired the same.
