So I have wanted to change my stock exhaust tips for quite some time now. I am dedicated at this point. I already bought high heat clear coat to keep them looking new and now just need to make a decision. I want them to:

-be quad
-protrude out from the bumper like an inch or so (just a little, nothing that will look tacky)
-be staggered (the two inner pipes will be slightly longer than the ones on the outside)
-be slightly larger than factory (I had the Megan exhaust and thought the 2.5" was too much, so I guess like 2"s is about right)
-square, oval, or circle (no preference)

I'm getting my Sarona roof spoiler and lightly tinted tail lights done soon and think this will wrap up the rear. I posted a pic below of what I am kind of going for, if anyone has any suggestions on where or what to buy it would be appreciated. I tried researching this topic and couldn’t find much...

If you just want to change your tips and keep the stock mufflers just go to a performance exhaust shop. They should already have a decent selection of tips on hand and can cut and weld them to fit the way you want.

Consider all your options. You can always bring these back.

It's just for decoration. That's it and that's all.

Hey Tim, is the Megan really that bigger compare to stock, I haven't seen it in person but based on pix it, Megan doesn't look that much bigger, I'm actually thinking about going bigger 3" angle cut tips.

Of course it will fully customer, an example, not the actual tips, I think the muffler shop has Magnaflow, money kind of tight but that is something down the road.

Magnaflow 14816 is what my friend who has an exhaust shop recommends. But those are over 200 each. Better to just get the Megan axle back. 4 bolts and you're done.

I've seen the 14816, my muffler guy has them for 170 each playa price! I don't like them :nono:
I don't know why but I'm not sold on Megan yet... maybe I need to see and hear it in person.
I can get a full custom exhaust for less than Megan cat back.

@ Timothy... since you have an 08 M35, the rear bumper is slightly different than the 06 & 07's... I believe the rear apron covers lower so the Megan exhaust tips don't appear to come out as far... I spoke with my buddy who deals directly with Megan and made a suggestion that they (Megan) should make longer tips for the 08-10 M's.... we'll see...

anyway, you can always use larger tips on your stock mufflers...the picture you showed is a C63 AMG, the tips on the AMG exhausts are approx 4" ovals...you'd probably need to cut your bumper a tad to make room...I've included a link to where you can get some decent tips, otherwise your local muffler shop should have a selection...

I've done many different exhaust set ups on my M...custom mufflers w/larger tips, stock exhaust with larger tips, Megan (version 1), Megan (burnt tips)...I've included some pix below... also added some pix of my E350 with the AMG exhaust (I had to trim the rear bumper to make room)... hope this helps.

custom exhaust (mufflers and larger tips and I had them jet out far from bumper - M5 look)

Really appreciate all of the tips on here (no pun intended).

CPJ, your stock setup with new tips looks awesome. That is kind of what I wanted. My big beef with the Megan exhaust was there was an inch or so gap between the bottom of the bumper and top of the muffler, looked tacky as hell. The benz tips look awesome too, I'll have to do some more research and figure out how I can get that "AMG" exhaust look on my M.

You can always buy some used E55 mufflers and have the tips cut off, polished, and welded onto your M35 stock mufflers.

What does this mean for 08+ sport models because the rear bumper covers differ from non sport models also. I'd like to see the Megan on an 08+ Sport.

I think the OP - Timothy - can describe it better in terms of the look of the rear apron. Unfortunately I don't have a side by side comparison of the rear view between the 06 and the 08+ . Maybe Timothy took a pix when he had his Megan's installed prior to selling them.

....I just happened to find some pix online....I've attached the link.... I was surprised to see my car on the webpage (4th car on the top right)

the first pix (white 08 M) you can see how the rear apron comes down further than an 06 rear apron... the 08 rear bumper looks like a diffuser is connected
