Anybody had this problem? Center dash display is dim unless I override with the headlight switch. I unplugged the optical sensor on the passenger side dash register and no change. Is there a way to test the sensor or the BCM?

You sure you don't have the day/night button pushed? Most Nissan/Infiniti AV Units remember the button setting.

Probably just age. The backlight dims with age and use and the car is 15 years old now. Mine has been dimming for years. I really need to replace it and I plan on following EdBwoy's video tutorial of when he did it for doing my own.

Thanks for the responses. I covered the sensor on the passenger side and the the headlights came on and the screen brightened . No problems at night or dust. The problem is when the headlights turn off from the sensor the Radio ,HVAC, Map, etc display can not be seen. Where is the day night button?
I honestly have never noticed it. Not my primary car until it needs something. Momma's car. Im still driving my G20 that does not have all these gadgets
Thanks
Sam

Just to follow up I pushed the day night button that up to this point I have never used. Problem solved. Thanks all
I had the dash apart to repair multiple cracks and thought I had created an issue with one of the electrical connections.
On to the next task.
