06' M35 (note: pics are not my M, just used as an example)

Hey guys,I just went to the local gas station to fuel up, and after 2 gallons, the pump stopped working. I pulled the trigger, and out came a little then stopped. I asked the attendant if it was a faulty pump, and he said no. So he stuck his finger as deep as he could through the gas tank hole, (PICTURED HERE)

and he said the cover at the entrance of the hole is missing. He said it must have fell into the gas tank and now mixed with your fuel

So he just put fuel in the tank manually by turning the gas pump upside down and pulling the trigger which then started to work. He said it's a safety measure all gas pumps have. The fuel will not come out if it does not "detect" a fuel cover at the entrance of the hole but if you flip the pump upside down, it bypasses that safety jigger:Werd

I have never heard of such a thing before. He said it happens sometimes but I should take it to dealer asap to fix. He said there is a chance the car can explode if there is no blockage between the outside air and the tank (the gas cap is not enough to block all the way) (pictured here)

Any thoughts on this people

Thanks Audi. I never thought of that . I'm not asking what to do. I said has anyone heard of this before. I just found it odd. I just wanted some thoughts/feedback. I'm taking it to the dealer today and I will tell them to also fix Bulletin#07038 (paired Treo with Bluetooth issue). We'll see what happens (Santa Monica Infiniti)

Not a big fan of Santa Monica. I think Valencia Infiniti is really good , but too far and Glendale is ok to. I think that article is BS or an urban legend or a M HATER.

ttsupra clearly states that this is not his M in his first sentence. He was using these pics as an example only.

Thank you M45. That is not a article. I wrote it myself (lol what were you thinking mendoza . Anyway, yes I inserted those pics to use as an example so you guys can see where I am talking about.

Well, I just came back from Santa Monica Infiniti, and as usual their service is always crappy He said that M's and almost all Infiniti's do not have a flap at the entrance of the gas tank I thought that was odd because every car I have owned has had it. He said it was most probobly the gas pump that was faulty.

And for the bulletin regarding nav screen and auto climate lockup with bluetooth cell phones, I posted what happend with that here:zer...94135

Very well known issue with these cars. The door is not missing, its simply not at the nozzle like most cars. It is down at the tank and it closes back prematurely base on fuel flow and curve of the pipe to the tank. Happened to me ALL the time until learned the trick. Rotate the dispenser about 30 degrees clockwise, slow squeeze to full flow....I wouldn't do upside down.

Won't explode.
