Hello all,
I have a 2008 M45 that does not have the Navigation or Technology package. I have looked into adding in the factory options to the car but as many have already said it would be very expensive and Infiniti had no desire to pull apart my dash and the wiring harnesses to try to add these factory features in aftermarket.
I then went the route of looking at a double din navigation unit but it will not fit behind the stock display screen as there is no room there and there is no dash kit to replace the 6 CD changer and mount it anywhere useful. I then decided to go the carputer route but given the features I am looking for this would also be a bit old school and unnecessarily complex.
I have now decided that the easiest and most sensible route is to integrate a tablet for all of my needed features. It can serve to play all of my media and it comes with it's own display so I don't need to patch into the cars existing display system. When tethered to my cell phone for internet access it would make an awesome GPS system, media player and allow streaming through Pandora. I could also make use of any android app that I can download.
My issue is this:
I want to turn the car into a bluetooth headset to be detected by a tablet. There are aftermarket devices that I have found that will act as a bluetooth headset and then connect to a set of RCA audio connectors. At the very least I want to take this output and patch it into the cars audio. Additionally I would also like to patch it into the cars microphone to be able to interact with the tablet through the cars audio system separately from the normal voice functions. Since I will be using the tablet for GPS, likely google maps, I need the tablet audio to preempt the normal car audio ONLY when the tablet sends audio output.
What this would result in is when I use the tablet for playing media it will preempt all other audio. Fortunately Google Maps for GPS automatically preempts any other audio on the tablet. Sooooo the car would operate as expected under normal conditions but when the tablet is sending audio whether it be from played media or the gps it would take over and preempt the normal audio.
Some of you may of course realize that using a bluetooth receiver that puts out RCA audio connected to an aux input somewhere would be a very simple way to get most but not all of the functionality that I want. The problem this causes is that if I want to use Google Maps for GPS I can't listen to one of the cars normal audio outputs like the CD player, radio or stored music. This is why I am looking for a solution to have the tablet audio preempt all other audio sources so that I could listen to say the radio and hear turn by turn GPS commands only when the tablet has something to say.
Any help or ideas would be much appreciated.
