m30 starting problems

I am hoping you all can give me guidance before my car goes to the shop. I have a 91 m30 that I love....most of the time. A few months ago I had a relay replaced as the car just wouldn't do anything one day. WHen at the garage, they said the starter was going bad as well. Occasionally the starter grinds, about 1/30 starts, but that isn't my main concern. Sometimes after I turn the car off, and then try to restart if the car hasn't been sitting for at least 10 minutes, it won't start. It acts like it is flooded. Holding the gas pedal down doesn't help. The only thing that works is letting it sit for at least 8 minutes. Today it wouldn't restart for over an hour. It is going to the shop on Thursday, but kind of wanted a heads up before I went. Also, it runs perfectly fine otherwise.THanks!!!
