I was on the highway yesterday night and a mid 90's M3 was tailing me for a while. I knew I couldn't shake him but did my best. After about 85 he lets off for a while. He lets me speed up to about 115 and passes me like im standing still. I was in awe that car could go from 85 to over 120 that fast. They truly are awesome cars.

My friends dad has an M5. the thing is amazing. Its the most luxurious car i have ever been in. Also one of the quickest, especially with size in mind. We were hitting exit ramps at like 60 and coming out of them at like 75. Amazing lateral acceleration. And it has a suede ceiling. You just can't beat those things. But they are uber expensive

M3's are awesome cars....I own a 95 M3, and it is fast, handles great, and looks good. I still think my 240 is much more fun to ride, it sits lower to the ground and has more of a go-kart feeling to it. 95-99 M3's run about a 14 flat 1/4 mile, btw, and are great at top end.

My boss has a 95 M3 and a 2000 or 2001 M5. Both are super nice automobiles, yet I look forward to the day when my 240 can leave them both as a tiny speck in the rearview.:ylsuper

I love the M3 as well. I almost bought an 86 model. Gotta love the ability to put 10" wide wheels on a car from factory.:ylsuper

I test drove an '03 M3 with the SMG transmission. What a fun car to drive. I have a question, do they still make the M5? I haven't seen any new ones in a year or two.

I know they are making a v10 one for 2005 I believe. Pretty sure they have a current model as well. I'm not all that current on them though as I can not afford one even in my dreams.

My favorite are the 80something M3s, with those flared fenders...amazing. Out of the few I see around I'd say maybe 60% have NASA or SCCA stickers on them, and even saw two with roll cages killing it on the highway. Even those older ones are nuts.

They still make the M5 and M3.

But both have been having a lot of engine problems and the M5 trannys's have problems as well.

When I go to my local BMW dealer, I often see an M5, usually in the service area with engine or transmission out.

Both the M5 and M3 have switched their oil recommendation from 5w-30 to 10w-60 in light of recent spike of low mile engine failures.

Fred...:)

PS: Nissan (ie Infiniti) V8's last a lot longer..;)

yeah, the m5 is my ultimate dream car, such a great sleeper. 400 horses with a 6spd in a family sedan, could it get any better? too bad they cost upwards of $70K... guess ill just have to steal one, heh.

Not really accurate. Neither of them have consistant transmission problems nor engine problems. There was a 3-month period of I think 9/01-12/01 where the M3's made did blow their motors but were replaced under warrenty and the problem has been fixed.

BTW-The M3 you guys are reffering to is the E30 M3, which came as a factory wide-body, and was pretty much a race-car for the streets. It's value is rising today as it's very hard to find stock examples that havn't been raced.

Your year M3 has a better rep than the new ones for reliability.
