Will a M2010 helmet be legal for 2011 Solo racing?

Yes, you'll be fine. You can find this in the Solo rulebook under 4.3, driver safety.

Just to give you piece of mind:

4.3 DRIVER’S SAFETY EQUIPMENT
4.3.1 Helmets
Helmets meeting the following standards must be worn while on
course:
All helmets meeting the current or two immediately preceding Snell
Foundation standards (SA2005, SA2000, SA95, M2010, M2005,
M2000, M95, K2005, K98), SFI standards 31.1, 41.1, 31.1A, 31.2A,
41.1A, 41.2A or British spec BS6658-85 type A/FR are acceptable.

That's from last year's rule book =)

I'm just trying to grow the nads to try some autoX this year. I figure if I buy a helmet it commits me to try it out at least.

Right on man! Once you get out there, you'll see it doesn't take much nads, just a lot of work and wheel time =) Make sure to ask any questions you may and do the novice walk-through, as it can mean the difference between a good first day and a bad first day.

From his list in his sig, it looks to be STX.

Most of my mods are suspension so far. No engine or exhaust mods yet. I am saving those till later so I don't get thrown into a class where I have no chance.

STX looks about right... sadly, the truck is technically outclassed heavily already just given that light bump from stock

Really? That stinks. I read up a little bit on STX and it seems there is a lot of Subarus in there to compete with.

Bimmers, RX8's and Civics too (well, until 2012).

Starting off, dont worry about getting beat, just worry about getting better.

but yeah, my buddy has an e46 BMW with a 330 zhp swap, hotchkiss sways, KW coils with tc klein springs (500# front 600# rear), all poly bushings etc... his car is also STX legal minus his catless header setup... just to give you an idea of what resides in that class

As far as helmets go, only the 95's are out so if you don't want to spend the extra $ on a 2010, you can probably find an 2005 on clearance.

As far as STX goes, it's a good place to start if you want to learn, assuming your truck will be allowed to run. If not, you can always jump in someone else's car.

well i sure do hope it is... considering i got my 720 placed in the rulebook for EP :)

of course he'll have to run as an NOC car... so no tours or national events... but if they tell him no locally then his region sucks

A lot of it is insurance and safety reasons. We had an XB show up, lowered to the ground, and we were not able to allow him to run. We also had to deny a VW bug.

They need to take a better look at the actual rules about COG and such then. A Scion XB is perfectly legal via the SCCA rules. Hell, at one of the tours at Wendover, there was a Toyota Tacoma X-Runner that ran in HS on Hoosiers.

This is my truck. Due to the grip level alone my truck has over Rev's, I'd hate to see his get denied when he isn't even going to be running race tires... especially when mine is perfectly legal

It's not just Solo rules and physics, there are supplemental local rules as well. And really, it depends on each site's specific insurance policy. I can't speak for other regions, but in mine, it's usually on a case-by-case basis. We have had cars flip on our home course (on street tires), so I know we're a little more careful about things that have more of a potential to flip than others.

Yeah, I gotcha. We've had a few cars up on 2 wheels before, but for the most part, its up to the local course designers to not set up a course where issues like that come about. We have maps drawn out explaining where problem areas may occur and the designers are required to make their courses slow or even stray away from certain spots for safety.

Well good thing I didn't go spend my money on a helmet yet as I was told my truck is not allowed in FLR-SCCA. Oh well.

After going back and forth with one misinformed d!ck some other members came to my aid and declared my truck legal to run under FSP. Unreal how some people can get stuff so wrong yet continue to insist they are right.

FSP!?!?!?! Did you do anything ignition-wise or anything to the intake plenum? You should be STX.

No and no, they said no trucks are allowed in STX which surprised me since you and Pezi both said STX. FSP shows listings for 2wd 4cyl and rotary trucks under 3.0L.

I'm guessing it's cause you dont have four seats. The rule is mainly to single out "sports car based" vehicles, which yours is not.

FSP is my car, early Civics, BMW 2002's, Focus' and such all on r-compounds.

Eh... there's a '77 yota truck here that runs FSP. It makes sense. You'll be even further at a disadvantage than before points-wise, but once again... its about fun. At least you're good to go!

Yeh, I was never going to sweat the winning part of it. I just want to learn some things about my truck I never knew before. I think what I am going to do is do the weekend warrior thing for this season and if I enjoy it then I will do the entire 2012 season. I work some Saturdays so there will be some conflicts of interest this year.
